YouTube promo paid for positive mentions of Xbox One

Updated with comment from Microsoft.

The internet is abuzz with the ramifications of what appears to be a shady, unethical deal to promote Xbox One on YouTube. A short-lived promotional campaign driven by Machinima paid "influencers" on the site for mentioning Xbox One in their videos. However, the terms required participants to not only be silent about the deal, but to ensure that they made no mention of Xbox One in a negative light.

Nintendo monetizing fanmade videos on YouTube

Fans that produce "Let's Play" style videos of Nintendo content will no longer be able to earn any ad revenue. The publisher has issued a "content ID match claim" on content that features audio or video of a certain length from its games. Offending videos will not be taken down from YouTube, but instead will feature advertising that will go directly to Nintendo--not the uploader.

YouTube user Zack Scott wrote an open letter on Facebook saying that "filing claims against LPers is backwards" and that because of Nintendo's actions, he can no longer play their games. "I won't because it jeopardizes my channel's copyright standing and the livelihood of all LPers," he added.

YouTube app coming to PS3 today

YouTube app coming to PS3 today

Although the PS3 internet browser received a significant upgrade few months prior, it still didn't provide an ideal YouTube-watching experience. Whereas Xbox Live members could simply access a dedicated app, PS3 owners had to jump through cumbersome menus to (poorly) have a YouTube-on-TV experience. Well, starting today, watching cat videos on your big screen is going to get a bit easier.

An official YouTube app is rolling out today on the PS3, available once the PlayStation Store updates. This is a "completely new experience, designed for the big screen and PS3 controls." As such, you'll see it looks nothing like YouTube on Xbox or Vita.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception beta dated; social media integration revealed

[Update: 5:40pm] Regarding Twitter's possible return to Uncharted 3, a representative at Naughty Dog told Shacknews: "What we’ve discussed so far [Facebook and YouTube] is the extent to which we’ve planned and begun implementing social media/network features into U3." Of course, since the game is still in development, "that can change," the rep says.
