The land of Britania is about to come to iOS, thanks to EA and Mythic Entertainment. Ultima Forever: Quest for the Avatar marks the Ultima's first time on mobile devices and returns players to a beloved time in the series.
Ultima Forever will take place 20 years after 1985's Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, widely considered one of the best games of the series. Lord British has ascended into the stars, leaving his daughter, Lady British, to take Britania's throne. The object is to, once again, become the avatar, as in Ultima IV.

BioWare's upcoming Ultima Forever will be a free-to-play game. However, executive producer Jeff Skalski promises the game will differ from many of the other F2P games on the market.
For example, while free-to-play, the game will not employ the typical "energy" model found in other games. "You'll find no lightning bolts here, so keep playing to your heart's content. I never wanted to kick players out of our game and say, 'Hey, come back in 3 hours. Goodbye,'" Skalski said.

Funny thing, the past. We vaguely remember parts of it, then fill the rest in with a consensus of other people's vague parts. So, was Ultima VIII: Pagan an affront to Origin's much-beloved series or a decent, albeit simpler, RPG? You can revisit the past and check for yourself, as it's now available on GOG.

On Monday, Richard Garriott said he had "discussions at very high levels with Electronic Arts" about getting his hands on the Ultima franchise, his own original creation. According to Garriott, discussions with Electronic Arts are happening "even now about a possible marketing and distribution [relationship] and things of this nature."
For fans of the Ultima series, this news was outstanding, but EA says none of Garriott's claims are accurate.

Game designer Richard Garriott is working on his next RPG, which will be either a spiritual successor or an actual sequel to Ultima Online. Garriott says he's entered discussions with EA about having access to the property again, but he's not sure if everyone at EA is on-board with his vision for the series.
"I would love to have access to the Ultima property," Garriott said. "We've had discussions at very high levels with Electronic Arts about access to the property. We're in discussions with Electronic Arts even now about a possible marketing and distribution relationships and things of this nature."
