Infinite Crisis, the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) based on the DC universe, will start its closed beta next week. Turbine sent out the announcement today announcing the start date of May 8, along with some new art (above) highlighting some alternate styles of Wonder Woman.

Lord of the Rings Online: Helm's Deep expansion announced

I did like that bit in the Lord of the Rings movies when they finally stopped walking about and had a big fight. The Battle of the Hornburg will finally come to The Lord of the Rings Online as "the most massive conflict yet" with the 'Helm's Deep' expansion, announced today by publisher Warner Bros. It's due to hit the free-to-play MMORPG this fall.

LOTRO expansion 'Riders of Rohan' announced, launching this fall

The folks at Turbine are keeping busy. After announcing the first expansion to Dungeons & Dragons Online last week, the developer has revealed its other free-to-play MMO, Lord of the Rings Online, would also get a new expansion.

"Riders of Rohan" will allow players to "join forces to ride into the Plans of Rohan," and is set to arrive this fall. Coming with the newest LOTRO expansion is an increased level cap to 85, "iconic locations" such as Amon Hen and Fangorn Forest, and a new "Mounted Combat" system.

D&D Online expansion 'Menace of the Underdark' coming this summer

To celebrate its sixth anniversary, Dungeons & Dragons Online developer Turbine has announced the game will finally receive its first expansion. Publisher Warner Bros. Entertainment revealed "Menace of the Underdark" will be coming to the free-to-play MMO this summer.

Fans of the Wizards of the Coast universe will be overjoyed to hear the game will finally include the famed Forgotten Realms--easily the most popular setting for the Dungeons & Dragons series.

Lord of the Rings Online Doubles Revenue After Move to Free-to-Play

At GDC Online, Turbine revealed that revenue for Lord of the Rings Online has doubled following its switch to free-to-play with an in-game store for premium content.

Executive Producer Kate Paiz explains that "when you tell people you no longer have to pay for it, they come in droves," according to Joystiq. Read more »

Media giant Warner Bros. announced last night that it has acquired MMORPG developer Turbine, the studio responsible for The Lord of the Rings Online and Asheron's Call.

"Turbine's renowned online game development and publishing expertise will help us develop additional online product offerings, while also providing us with new and innovative ways to market and communicate with our consumers," said Warner Bros. Lord of the Rings Online Expands with Mirkwood

The war for Middle-earth will continue this fall in Lord of the Rings Online new downloadable expansion 'Siege of Mirkwood,' announced today by developer Turbine.

Expanding to the "Dark, foreboding and treacherous forest of Mirkwood," players will conclude the previous expansion 'Mines of Moria' with a slog through hordes of orcs to the Ringwraith fortress of Dol Guldur, which houses new instances and a 12-player raid. Read more »

Atari Labels Dungeons & Dragons Lawsuit 'Frivolous'

In what is bound to be an ongoing case of "he said-she said," publisher Atari has fired back against the $30 million lawsuit from Dungeons & Dragons Online maker Turbine.

Atari labeled the lawsuit, in which Turbine accuses Atari of fraud and extortion, as "frivolous" and filed a motion to dismiss the suit, along with another complaint to "recover monies owed to Atari resulting from an independent third party audit of Turbine." Read more »

Atari Sued Over Dungeons & Dragons MMO Hijinks, Developer Seeking 'Excess of $30 Million'

Dungeons & Dragons Online developer Turbine is pursuing legal action against Atari, alleging the publisher of fraud, unjust enrichment, and breach of contract.

The bulk of Turbine's suit seems to revolve around the new D&D: Neverwinter Nights MMO Atari is said to be prepping in conjunction with Champions Online developer Cryptic. Turbine initially licensed the D&D MMO rights from Atari back in 2003. Read more »

Turbine Working on New MMO with Micro-transactions

Lord of the Rings Online developer Turbine has confirmed that it is working on a new MMO that will include the micro-transaction business model.

The company posted a job listing for a micro-transaction and e-commerce manager earlier in the week, leading many to believe that it would be adding micro-transactions to its current MMOs. A Turbine spokesperson instead explained that the position is for work on an unannounced project. Read more »

Lord of the Rings Online (PC) developer Turbine is known to be working on console MMOs, but fans will likely have to wait to next year to get details on what the company has up its sleeve.

"I would guess by early next year we'll be able to be much more specific about what we're doing with console," said LOTRO executive producer Jeff Steefel to VG247, who dodged questions about whether Lord of the Rings Online was itself headed to consoles. Read more »

Lord of the Rings Online Dev Gets New Studio, Former Flagship Staff

Lord of the Rings Online developer Turbine has opened a new west coast studio in Redwood City, CA, to support the expansion of platforms the company supports. Along the way, the studio announced it picked up a few noteworthy recruits from the defunct Flagship Studios, developer of Hellgate: London.

"The new studio will be a vital part of Turbine's corporate vision as it brings new titles to market, expands the platforms it supports and introduces new technologies to expand and grow the communities that are the foundation of online games," reads a press release from Turbine. As all of Turbine's releases to date have been PC games, the "platforms" mentioned could imply that future Turbine titles are headed to consoles. Read more »
