The quirky, creepy Little Inferno is getting littler this week, with an iPad port. It's coming on January 31, and developer Tomorrow Corporation promises it hasn't been retrofitted with in-app purchases and ads -- just the sweet smokey burn of the game itself.

If you've ever been on a camping trip, you might remember gathering near the campfire, enjoying the warmth as the wood burned. Occasionally, you'd drop things into the fire to see what happened. Bugs, wood, marshmallows... they all had a way of reacting to the fire, whether it was a slow burn or a satisfyingly gruesome pop. And you could easily sit mesmerized by the flames for hours.
Tomorrow Corporation's Little Inferno builds upon that experience; the game is a pyromaniac's dream. You are given a catalog to buy things--to throw into the fireplace, of course. Burning certain items together gives you credit for combos, and creating enough combos will unlock a new catalog of items to immolate.

It's a bit sad when you have to burn things in your home to keep from freezing to death. But Tomorrow Corporation does want you to be sad. Burn your toys and other items, collect coins and buy more things to burn in your new Little Inferno Entertainment Fireplace. A launch trailer for the game shows just how much fun pyromania can be.

Plenty of games try to scare us, many of them unsuccessfully. Maybe we're just jaded, but gruesome monsters and gore just don't hit that special kind of psychological torment. Maybe we need something more subtle. Like, say, a nightmarish dystopia in which children are taught to burn their toys to avoid freezing to death from an eternal winter.

Indie developer Tomorrow Corporation has announced its first game, titled Little Inferno. The game is still fairly mysterious, but Tomorrow Corporation says it felt comfortable revealing it now since the game is almost finished and ready for a winter release. The project is intriguing partly due to its pedigree: team members from Henry Hatsworth and World of Goo.
