The Walking Dead has been doled out in small chunks to an already passionate fan base. As such, the game has earned its share of accolades. Now that it has completed the arc of its first season, and the full story has come into focus, I feel confident declaring it one of my favorite games this year, and one of the best narrative experiences I've had in any game, in any year.

Nothing like short notice to keep you on your toes. Telltale Games has announced that the next and penultimate episode of The Walking Dead, titled "Around Every Corner," will release tomorrow on the PlayStation Network. PC and Xbox Live Arcade releases will follow on Wednesday.

The Walking Dead is a game about choices and the people they hurt. Plenty of games feature player agency in shaping the plot, but Telltale's adventure series has caught attention for making the options downright diabolical. I talked to Telltale designer and writer Harrison G. Pink at PAX 2012 about what it takes to build such a complex narrative.

The trouble with a tense story-telling experience like Telltale's Walking Dead series is waiting for more of the story to be told--particularly if you sped through the first two episodes marathon-style when they went up on PlayStation Plus. If you've been craving more impossible decisions and social politics peppered with zombies, good news. The third episode, Long Road Ahead, starts to roll out today.

Robert Kirkman created The Walking Dead long before it was a household name. Before the popular AMC series or recent video game of the same name, Kirkman wrote the comic book, and as such he's in a unique position to judge Telltale's success with translating his creation to a new medium.
"Like everybody who's played it I'm fairly impressed by what they've been able to do," Kirkman said.

The Walking Dead has gotten a lot of attention for hitting the sweet spot of the Telltale adventure game formula, along with a few new narrative hooks. If you're a PlayStation Plus member and you haven't tried it out yet, the good news is you'll be able get it soon at no extra cost.
