After rapid releases of new fighting game iterations, the genre died down quite a bit in the 2000s. Capcom, having released umpteen Street Fighter games in the 90s, had to wait until the market was more receptive with the release of Street Fighter 4, nearly a decade later.
Apparently, the company hasn't learned its lesson. After releasing Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, Darkstalkers Resurrection, etc., it appears that interest in HD revivals of fighting classics is waning.

The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector's Set is already teetering on the edge of ridiculousness. The $150 pack boasts four full games and a host of other goodies. But if all that wasn't quite enough to convince you, the PlayStation 3 version will apparently get even more games as downloadable titles.

Street Fighter has had a couple of notable missteps when it comes to translating the franchise to live-action, namely Street Fighter: The Movie and The Legend of Chun-Li. Will fans be able to make better than these Hollywood monstrosities? That's what Capcom plans on finding out. Well-received fan film "Street Fighter: Legacy" is getting the official treatment, set to become a full-on Web series backed by Capcom itself.

Little is known about Tekken x Street Fighter, Namco Bandai's 3D turn at a mash-up fighter. In fact, it's unclear if any significant work has been done on the game, given the team's focus on Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Although a release is nowhere in sight, Namco Bandai believes it best to release the game on the current generation of consoles.
"There's still a large number of players out there with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 who are looking forward to the game," Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada said. "So we feel it's probably more relevant to get the title out to them on the current hardware."

Twelve new characters are coming to Street Fighter x Tekken on July 31st according to an update from EVO. And by new, we mean "already on the disc." For $20, you'll be able to get Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars, and Lei.
