Capcom looking at 'more and better' single-player in fighting games

Capcom looking at 'more and better' single-player in fighting games

Fighting games are chiefly about punching your friend in the face, but the new Mortal Kombat and, oh my goodness, Persona 4 Arena have really worked at big single-player sides too. While Capcom is arguably still best at friend-punching, it's really fallen behind in offering more. Thankfully, that may be changing in the not-so-near future.

'Novelty' of Capcom's fighting HD remakes wearing off

'Novelty' of Capcom's fighting HD remakes wearing off

After rapid releases of new fighting game iterations, the genre died down quite a bit in the 2000s. Capcom, having released umpteen Street Fighter games in the 90s, had to wait until the market was more receptive with the release of Street Fighter 4, nearly a decade later.

Apparently, the company hasn't learned its lesson. After releasing Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, Darkstalkers Resurrection, etc., it appears that interest in HD revivals of fighting classics is waning.

Street Fighter X Mega Man coming free to PC

Street Fighter X Mega Man coming free to PC

With Street Fighter's 25th anniversary wrapping up, and Mega Man's about to begin, Capcom is celebrating the two with Street Fighter X Mega Man, a fan-made free cross-over game. Or, more accurately, it's wisely choosing not to shut down a fan project as so many publishers would, and supporting the platformatron as a free "official" release.

Tekken x Street Fighter to remain current-gen game

Tekken x Street Fighter to remain current-gen game

Little is known about Tekken x Street Fighter, Namco Bandai's 3D turn at a mash-up fighter. In fact, it's unclear if any significant work has been done on the game, given the team's focus on Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Although a release is nowhere in sight, Namco Bandai believes it best to release the game on the current generation of consoles.

"There's still a large number of players out there with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 who are looking forward to the game," Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada said. "So we feel it's probably more relevant to get the title out to them on the current hardware."

Street Fighter X Tekken crash fix coming in June

A game-crashing Street Fighter X Tekken bug that snuck into the fighter with the last update should be fixed by mid-June, Capcom has said. The glitch is a nasty one, likely to bring the game tumbling down in fairly common circumstances.
