Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City dev hit with more layoffs

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City developer Slant Six Games has been hit with more layoffs, the third such staff reduction in two years. The studio cut an undisclosed number of staff last June, and also laid off team members in April 2010. A company representative said this move is "temporary"--as the others were--as it tries to line up more work.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City developer sees layoffs

Vancouver-based developer Slant Six has laid off "more than a quarter" of its employees today. The company most recently shipped Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City--a multiplayer third-person shooter that sold well, in spite of mostly negative reviews. Beyond ORC, the developer worked on the SOCOM franchise, working on various PSP iterations of the series, as well as the critically-panned SOCOM: Confrontation.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City review

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City review

On paper, the idea of a squad-based shooter drawing from Resident Evil canon with loose narrative ties to the earlier games in the series seems like a solid idea. Slant Six Games' Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City executes on the concept with varying degrees of success, but much of the experience is undermined by a number of basic game mechanics that, at best, just aren't particularly fun. On the contrary, annoyance and frustration were much more prevalent emotions throughout my experience.

Operation Raccoon City trailer features some familiar faces

Operation Raccoon City trailer features some familiar faces

Though the game is a drastic departure from past Resident Evil titles--including the ability to shoot while moving--Operation Raccoon City will have a few familiar faces.

A new trailer for the upcoming shooter from developer Slant Six Games shows off some of the "Heroes" featured in the title. It may not play like the Resident Evil you know and love, but at least you'll be experiencing it with old friends.

Rumor: Team-Based Resident Evil Coming From SOCOM Dev Slant Six

A new instalment in Capcom's zombie franchise Resident Evil may be in development at Slant Six Games, the Canadian developer behind SOCOM: Confrontation, if a document received by Kotaku is to be believed.

No details are offered on the supposed game codenamed 'Resident Evil: Raccoon City' beyond it being "team-based." This could indicate a multiplayer slant or simply that it's squad-based, like the SOCOM series. Read more »
