Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians: a musical take on the platformer

Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians: a musical take on the platformer

Like any great piece of music, Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians simply needs to be heard and experienced.

"[Beatbuddy] is an action-platformer meets music game," said Reverb Publishing's executive producer Ted Lange. "By no means is it a music game that would be in the music genre. The way I would describe it would be, what Lumines did to add music to puzzle games, this game is adding to platformers."

Guncraft preview: Minecraft with guns

To call Minecraft a runaway success would be selling it short. Of course, success inspires iteration. Devekioer Exato Game Studios is taking the Minecraft aesthetic and turning it into a first-person shooter with Guncraft.

"Guncraft is the marriage between what everybody loved about Minecraft, all the creative aspects, and what everybody loves about the gameplay of Call of Duty and Halo--which is shooting your friends in the face," executive producer Ted Lange told us.

Guncraft unveils create-your-own-weapon Gun Smithing mode

Guncraft has already put a twist on the traditional Minecraft formula by complementing player creativity with traditional FPS-style combat. Exato Game Studios has another trick up its sleeve, though. Beyond creating new maps, players will also be able to create their own weapons with the game's new Gun Smithing feature.

Sanctum 2 review: friendly fire

Sanctum 2 review: friendly fire

For the sake of full disclosure, I never played the original Sanctum. The 2011 title from Coffee Stain Studios was one of the first games to blend together the tower defense and first-person shooter genres. But you don't need to have a full knowledge of the series to appreciate what the Swedish indie developer has created. Sanctum 2 offers a superb shooting experience, though one that's meant more for friends than solo players.

Get to the chopper in free Primal Carnage DLC

Get to the chopper in free Primal Carnage DLC

"Get to the chopper!" More than a hilarious reference to the movie Predator for one to yell at any opportunity, it's also a new mode coming to dinosaur vs. human multiplayer shooter Primal Carnage as free DLC. As you may guess, the mode involves journeying to a helicopter, but unfortunately an awful lot of dinos are along the way.

Dungeon Defenders not coming to Vita

Trendy Entertainment's Dungeon Defenders made quite a splash when it released in October. The developer had hoped a handheld version would broaden the game's appeal when it showed a tech demo of the game off on the PS Vita earlier in 2011, but it appears the port is no longer going to happen.

As with Renegade Ops, Valve is letting a third party take advantage of its IP to promote the Steam release.
