Resident Evil 6 is, perhaps, one of the most action-heavy games in the franchise so far. Not only does the game have a cover system, it allows you to move and shoot at the same time--a point of contention for years. As it becomes more of a shooter and less of a horror game, how does Resident Evil maintain its identity? And what must be sacrificed in the name of appealing to the mainstream?
"Nowadays, to have a system where you're restricted to six or eight items and that's all you can have with you... I think the core fans might really like that, but it might not get Resident Evil into a lot of people's hands," executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi said. "We want to make it as accessible as possible. A system like that is just much too difficult for what people want from their games nowadays."

My first look at Resident Evil 6 at E3 was worrisome. Capcom's gorgeous sequel had all the pinnings of a truly remarkable game: it is an epic, global storyline featuring three intersecting co-op campaigns, after all. But I couldn't get over how poorly it controlled, and how it simply didn't feel like a Resident Evil game. After playing through nearly the first half of the game, I'm disappointed to say that the game has not gotten any better. But, at least now I know exactly why the game is so flawed.

You may recall an announcement last month that Konami is partnering with Universal Studios to make Silent Hill-themed Halloween attractions. Not to be outdone, Capcom and Six Flags announced their own spooky partnership today, resulting in "Resident Evil 6 Flags Night." Nothing says scary quite like clever marketing opportunities.

Resident Evil 6 will introduce a new online service for Capcom called "Resident Evil.net." As with many similar services, RE.net will pull in data from Resident Evil 6 and allow you to compare your stats with players from around the world.
While it's nice to see how your Mercenaries scores compare to Japanese players, perhaps the biggest draw of the service is the ability for Capcom to schedule special events. "For example, let's say one weekend the goal is to kill 10,000 zombies. Everyone who has an RE.net account and plays during that time period will receive RE.net points that can be redeemed on the site for a variety of goodies."

The Resident Evil series has racked up a pretty high zombie body count, but Resident Evil 6 will let you take up the undead mantle and even the score a bit. The game will feature an "Agent Hunt" mode, which lets players step into a randomized creature and go after human players.

Capcom has shown off so much of Resident Evil 6, it's hard to believe that the game has any surprises left for us. Once again, the publisher has decided to show off the three co-op campaigns of the game with three brand new gameplay videos.
The first video shows Leon's journey through the sewers. His adventure is supposed to be the most like the original games, as it has you creeping slowly through a dimly lit environment. Oh, and of course you'll have to fight zombies.

The Resident Evil franchise is jumping back into the terrifying world of direct-to-home-video movies once again. Resident Evil: Damnation is an all-CG movie, and serves as a sequel to Degeneration (which was terrible, by the way).
Degeneration writer Shotaro Suga returns, penning a script that brings Ada Wong and Leon Kennedy together in a brand new B.O.W. outbreak that takes place in a small Eastern European country. Fans of Resident Evil 4 may find the scenario quite familiar.

Resident Evil 6 is the rare game that has shorter trailers every time we see it. Still, for those unfazed by our negative preview and the demo's poor performance, this new trailer from San Diego Comic-Con should help fan your hype. Especially because it ends with an encounter with yet another one of the game's giant bosses, a deadly snake.

Apparently, having six playable characters and three different campaigns isn't enough for Capcom. Data-mining internet sleuths have pored over code from the recently-released Resident Evil 6 demo, and have uncovered references to a fourth playable campaign.
It appears Ada may have her own campaign. The red dress-wearing villain has been a franchise favorite, and she's made numerous appearances in screens and trailers for the game. According to the decrypted data, Ada will be joined by another co-op partner, presumably Carla.
