Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus rated for PS Vita

The last time we saw the pair of Ratchet and Clank, they were tearing the universe a new one in the final chapter of the Future series, Into the Nexus, on PlayStation 3. Now, that same adventure could be headed to the portable front.

Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus is an endless runner for mobile

The Ratchet & Clank series is running, endlessly, to mobile. Ratchet & Clank: Before the Nexus is a brand new game for mobile platforms that has you hopping between grindrails while avoiding hazards and collecting bolts. Best of all, it actually looks like a real game (screenshot above).

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus includes free Quest for Booty

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus includes free Quest for Booty

Why yes, there is another Ratchet & Clank game coming out this year. Into the Nexus is the "epilogue" to the Future saga of games, and will be available on PS3 on November 12th for $29.99. It promises to be a more classically styled adventure, staying away from the gameplay experiments of Insomniac's most recent adventures.

To sweeten the deal, Into the Nexus will include a free copy of Quest for Booty, the first downloadable game in the Future saga. A voucher will be included in every retail copy of the game. That's in addition to whatever retailer-exclusive bonuses are also on offer.

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus video shows off weaponry

Insomniac has stressed that Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus would be a return to the classic single-player adventure tropes that built the series, rather than some of its more recent experimental ideas. To that end, a new developer diary puts some time into detailing one of Ratchet's most well-known features: inventive weaponry.

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus coming to PS3 this year

Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus coming to PS3 this year

In spite of launching a new console later this year, Sony has a number of exclusives launching on PS3 this holiday. Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is yet another game planned for the current-gen.

Into the Nexus will launch for $30 on Blu-ray and PlayStation Network. While it may not be a "full" console game, it will still be larger than the previous downloadable games in the franchise: Quest for Booty and Full Frontal Assault. And unlike recent games in the series, Into the Nexus promises to return to what made the franchise so popular in the first place: a single-player adventure.

Ratchet: Deadlocked HD coming to PS3 later this year

Ratchet: Deadlocked HD coming to PS3 later this year

The recent Ratchet & Clank Collection is missing one game from the PS2 era: Deadlocked, a darker, multiplayer-oriented arena combat game that focused more on gunplay than platforming. As noted on Wikipedia, it is the only game in the series to keep a Teen rating (all the other games have been re-rated E10+).

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault announced, coming to PSN

Ratchet & Clank are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year with an HD Collection, featuring remastered versions of the PS2 trilogy that started it all. But, if that isn't enough Ratchet or Clank for you, Insomniac Games has announced yet another addition to the long-running platformer franchise.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault is coming later this year. While it's only been a few months since the release of All 4 One, FFA takes a different approach. "We've returned to the series' classic feel, camera, controls and weapons, while innovating and giving you a whole new way to play," Insomniac CEO Ted Price said in the announcement.

Ratchet & Clank HD Collection coming Fall with online multiplayer

As expected, the Ratchet & Clank series is getting an HD re-release on PS3. The Ratchet & Clank Collection will include the original PS2 game, Going Commando, and Up Your Arsenal. Unlike most other remasters, this one will actually include the online multiplayer mode initially offered in Up Your Arsenal--something that makes Insomniac's James Stevenson quite happy because "not enough people played it the first time."
