ObsCure game turns into Final Exam, coming to PS3 in November

High school reunions can get pretty awkward. You'll bump into your old prom date, you run into friends that you haven't talked to in years, and then monsters will show up. Ok, that may not be how your high school reunion went, but there are definitely plenty of monsters (besides your high school ex) wandering the halls in Mighty Rocket Studio's upcoming Final Exam, formerly known as ObsCure.

There's no shortage of supernatural-themed games for Halloween this year. Darksiders 2 review

Darksiders 2 review

Sometimes the first entry in a series is more notable for its potential than pure quality. Usually they come in the form of B-tier franchises, beloved despite their blemishes. When (or more likely, if) these titles get another entry, it's particularly important to stick the landing on the second go-round. I'm glad to say that in Darksiders 2, Vigil Games has largely made good on the series' potential with plenty of room to expand on it in future games.

Next Darksiders could reduce scope to improve detail

Next Darksiders could reduce scope to improve detail

Vigil Games decided that bigger is better in Darksiders 2, making the world as much as four times larger than the original by some accounts. As Vigil wraps up work on the game, it's already thinking about the next step in the franchise--and might just scale things down for the next title if the reaction and sales call for it.

The horsemen cometh, but they cometh a little slower than you thoughteth. Darksiders 2 has been delayed until August, following some telltale comments from executive VP Danny Bilson that started churning the rumor mill. The announcement claims this will give the game "additional time for polish and to ensure that all aspects of Darksiders 2 meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting."

Spector: Epic Mickey 2 more than the music

When I previewed Epic Mickey 2 two weeks ago, there was plenty to talk about--cooperative play, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and support for multiple platforms. Developer Warren Spector also gushed about the music and the songs.

Now, he wishes he hadn't gushed so much.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Vita functions as PS3 controller

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Vita functions as PS3 controller

The Vita version of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 will let the handheld act as a controller for the PlayStation 3 version, offering a taste of how Sony could use its devices respond to the upcoming Wii U. Capcom calls it the "ultimate controller" for the game. Considering the touch controls include shortcuts for Hyper Combos and the like, it does seem like that would grant a tactical advantage.

Twisted Metal delayed to 2012

Twisted Metal delayed to 2012

The return of Calypso’s demented contest is going to be late. Today, Eat Sleep Play co-founder David Jaffe has revealed that Twisted Metal for the PlayStation 3 will not make its October 4 ship date.

"A late game is only late until it ships. A bad game is bad until the end of time," Jaffe wrote, quoting the legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. The "good news," however, is the game will be playable at both Gamescom 2011 and PAX Prime 2011, for those in attendance.

F.E.A.R. 3 review

F.E.A.R. 3 review

When Monolith first established the F.E.A.R. franchise in 2005, it was heralded for its challenging AI and terrifying atmosphere. Six years later, Alma and her sons have been adopted by developer Day 1 Studios for F.E.A.R. 3. But even in the hands of a new team, F.E.A.R. 3 manages to strike some of the core elements that made the original so exhilarating.

As before, the game's greatest strength comes in its moment-to-moment gun play. F.E.A.R. 3 puts players in intense matches against a varied set of educated computer opponents.
