Shadow of the Eternals on indefinite hold

Shadow of the Eternals on indefinite hold

When the first crowdfunding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals failed to rouse interest, developer Precursor Games scrapped it and launched a second two months later. After that also failed, well, Precursor is finally giving up on the spiritual sequel to Eternal Darkness. Or, in its words, putting the game "on hold" and disbanding until "when and if the time is right."

Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding relaunched

Precursor Games has relaunched its crowdfunding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals, a "spiritual successor" to GameCube survival horror Eternal Darkness made by some of the folks behind the original at Silicon Knights. Precursor says it's 'a wholly different company' from Silicon Knights

Precursor Games, developer of the crowdfunded "spiritual successor" to Eternal Darkness, has been greeted with skepticism due to the company's connection to ex-Silicon Knights staff--including the vocal former head of SK, Denis Dyack. CEO Paul Caporicci is attempting to distance the new studio from the less-than-sterling SK legacy, claiming it's a wholly new company.

Silicon Knights seemed effectively dead after losing a costly lawsuit against Epic Games, being forced to destroy their games, and laying off most of their team. While the Silicon Knights official website remains online, it seems the X-Men Destiny developer is no more.

Shadows of the Eternals, a "spiritual successor" to Gamecube horror game Eternal Darkness debuted last Friday. Developed by Precursor Games, the crowdfunded project is said to be "from the creators of Eternal Darkness." But what does that mean, exactly?
