Sony: PlayStation Network will be fully restored this week

Sony: PlayStation Network will be fully restored this week

The PlayStation Network, Sony's online service for PlayStation 3 and PSP, is due to finally be fully restored this week, over a month after it was hacked and taken offline. While this certainly isn't the first time Sony has made promises regarding the return of PSN, this time it's confident enough to issue a proper flashy press release and everything.

This will see the PlayStation Store return at long last, along with the usual PSN functionality and certain parts of the Qriocity music service. It won't happen quite everywhere, though; Sony says "the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea" can expect their service by the end of the week. "For those asking about the PlayStation Store, we're still targeting restoration of all services by the end of the month," reads the post by social media manager Jeff Rubenstein. "Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today." Read more »

Reports indicate PS Store online May 24, Sony says no specific date set

[Update 11:45] Giant Bomb reports that Sony's Patrick Seybold has responded to the reports, emphasizing that no specific date has been set for the PS Store restoration.

While of course we want to keep our partners in the loop with the latest developments for bringing back the PlayStation store, we've not announced a specific date other than to say we expect to have the service fully restored by end of the month. Anything other than that is purely speculative.
