It was a murky world, the Parisian nightlife of the 1920s, but sometimes a little shadow can be useful when you're an 8-year-old girl's glamorous imaginary friend. Publisher Focus Home Interactive today announced it's picked up Contrast, a puzzle-platformer where you can shift into shadow to pass obstacles in the unreal world.

Two decades after Tower of Doom stormed arcades, Capcom is reviving their highly-regarded Dungeons & Dragons games. After spending some hands-on time with Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, it's clear that the original arcade experience has been successfully remastered and enhanced without compromising the legacy of the original classics.
Starting up with Shadow over Mystara, the first thing of note is that the HD update is done with respect to the games' 32-bit roots. Everything from the medieval town houses and lush landscapes to the cloak of my selected character (which you can customize the name of), the elf, retains a lightly pixelated look, but with greater clarity and color depth.

Payday 2, the sequel to 2011's Payday: The Heist, is no longer a download exclusive. Publisher 505 Games and developer Overkill Software announced today that in addition to its digital releases, the game will be available at retail for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
David Goldfarb said in a press release: "We have a bit of a problem here at Overkill--there are just too many great ideas and none that we were really happy to throw out--so Payday 2 has become just too big to reserve release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network alone."

Final Fantasy X-2 was quite the odd release. Lampooned for its odd title, the game now seems sensible after recent releases from the JRPG publisher. Time makes the heart grow fond, and it appears many fans are now eagerly awaiting the HD re-release of both X and X-2.
It appears the upcoming HD bundle is no quick cash-in, either. Square Enix released the first screenshots from the X-2 remaster, and they look impressive. According to the publisher, not only have the character models been redone, but "the textures of the surrounding environment and backgrounds were also carefully redrawn."

Rockstar Games is continuing its slow drip of PlayStation Network re-releases. With the PS2 era Grand Theft Auto games all available on PSN, it's time for Rockstar to go into its darker and slightly more obscure past.
Next week, Manhunt will join the PS2 Classics collection. The then-controversial game has you controlling James Earl Cash who must participate in a kill-or-be-killed game a la Saw. It will be available for $9.99.

Snoop Dogg's original rhythm-combat game Way of the Dogg is available today on Xbox Live Marketplace for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). (The game is inspired before Snoop went on his Jamaican vision-quest and started calling himself Snoop Lion, of course.) Publisher 505 Games also noted that it will be coming soon to PlayStation Network and mobile platforms as well.

If we're honest with ourselves, we can admit that most games are silly. Even the ones that purport to take themselves very seriously are often rife with ludonarrative dissonance, when interaction doesn't match the gravity of the plot. Far Cry 3 was one recent example, but its offshoot, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, doesn't shackle itself anywhere near that level of seriousness. Instead, it strips away the artifice and revels in utter absurdity, all the while retaining the harmonious gameplay systems that helped Far Cry 3 stand out in an overcrowded shooter market.

"Wanna be a gunslinger," sang pop star M in his 1979 single Pop Muzik, "don't be a rock singer." Any attempt to tie that into this story would be too contrived and, frankly, too daft. Techland's wild wild west 'em up Call of Juarez: Gunslinger will launch for at $14.99, publisher Ubisoft announced today. It's coming for download on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, while PC gets a retail edition too.

Remember the Great PlayStation Network Outage of 2011? After Sony's servers were hacked, the company took down its network services for an extended period of time. When it returned, the company offered a "Welcome Back" promo that included a number of free games.
But, that wasn't sufficient compensation, one class action lawsuit claimed. And now, Canadian users of Sony's online services can join the suit to get some additional freebies.
