Having worked on the sound chip within the SNES, he later became lead engineer of the original PlayStation, the first video game console to sell over 100 million units. EA Sports ends the FIFA Manager series

Manhunt lands on PS3 next week, The Warriors coming soon

Rockstar Games is continuing its slow drip of PlayStation Network re-releases. With the PS2 era Grand Theft Auto games all available on PSN, it's time for Rockstar to go into its darker and slightly more obscure past.

Next week, Manhunt will join the PS2 Classics collection. The then-controversial game has you controlling James Earl Cash who must participate in a kill-or-be-killed game a la Saw. It will be available for $9.99.

Grand Theft Auto DNA, part 1: driving evolved

Grand Theft Auto DNA, part 1: driving evolved

Editor's Note: In part 1 of our Grand Theft Auto DNA, we dissect the driving system in GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, and GTA 4 to understand how driving evolved over the course of those series, and how it should work in the upcoming GTA 5.

In August 2001, Sony's PlayStation 2 celebrated its first birthday with little fanfare. More a glorified DVD player than a hot-ticket game machine, the PS2 lacked a system seller, industry jargon for a game so popular that gamers plunked down hundreds of dollars on a console just to experience that one game. Two months later in October, Rockstar North filled the void with Grand Theft Auto 3, an open-world romp where players could hijack cars, splatter pedestrians, treat traffic jams like impromptu destruction derbies, and wage crime sprees.

Rockstar is releasing even more Grand Theft Auto on the PlayStation Network next week, because all those autos aren't going to theft themselves. New game releases of November 5-11

New game releases of November 5-11

Lawks, will you look at that! This week brings that most rare and precious of new releases: a new PlayStation 2 game, in the form of PES 2013. Oh, and something named Halo 4 is coming out. It's probably popular if there are at least four, unless this is comedy The Naked Gun-style naming.

Sony's gaming division posts a loss, expects lower sales of PS3 and Vita

The PlayStation division hasn't performed up to Sony's expectations. In its latest quarterly earnings report, the electronics giant reported lower sales of hardware and software of the PSP and PS3, causing a sales decrease of 14.5% year-on-year.

As such, the gaming division of Sony posted an operating loss of 3.5 billion yen ($45 million), compared to an operating income of 4.1 billion yen in the same quarter last year. In addition to lower sales, "unfavorable foreign exchange rates" have also contributed to the loss.

PES 2013 announced for fall

"Let's kick that ball!" The famous footie chant will once again ring out this fall, as Konami has announced PES 2013. The wholly expected next annual installment in the Pro Evolution Soccer series is, according to Konami, "the most faithful recreation of modern day football to date," though it seems both PES and FIFA toss similar claims about every year.

New video game releases of 3/5-3/11

Next week will bring something very rare and special--a new PlayStation 2 game, in the form of Major League Baseball 2K12. Other new releases include Street Fighter X Tekken, I Am Alive, MLB 12: The Show, and something named Mass Effect 3--looks like some sort of sci-fi shooter-RPG to my eyes.
