Like most racing games, Forza Horizon appeals to our gearhead. If there's one thing car nuts like more than cars, it's more cars, and Playground Games plans on enabling that particular habit with monthly car packs. Design director Ralph Fulton explained how it will be rolling out the new content.

Despite a now decade long history spanning four consecutive games, the creative team behind the Forza series never set out to make driving sims, at least not according to its creative director, Dan Greenwalt. I'll take him at his word because I get the point he wants to make with such a dramatic statement. The motivation that drove their work came from passion for cars. Simulation racers just happened to be the natural outlet for that energy in the videogame world when they sat down to do it. With Forza Horizon the team hopes to find a different expression that triggers a more emotional response. As he says, "a Ferrari pulls up next to you at a light and you're going to have a reaction." It's that same sort of thing Forza Horizon hopes to inspire.

Included with the $80 Limited Edition version of Forza Horizon is a VIP membership that grants access to additional content. For example, these cars are exclusive to VIP members: the 2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder, 2011 Koenigsegg Agera, 2011 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, 2012 Pagani Huayra, and the 2011 RUF Rt 12 R.
However, VIP members also get other benefits as well. A VIP icon will appear next to their Gamertags when playing online, so that everyone else can know they've paid more for the game. There will also be exclusive Rivals Mode events for VIP members.

QUICKTAKE: Co-developers Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are taking the Forza franchise in a bit of a new direction with "pick-up and play fun," while trying to keep the same authenticity that the series has been famous for. Forza Horizon takes to the roads of Colorado, a spot the developers chose because of the panoramic vistas, winding roads and open highways. Unfortunately, there wasn't too much shown in the demo, with a little bit of racing, a sneak peak at the hub of the game called the Horizon Festival and some Kinect voice commands that can aid the players in getting around the large open-world expanse.
