Hawken trailer demonstrates PhysX shinies

The physics acceleration revolution may have failed long ago, but Nvidia's keeping the dream alive for romantics by cramming its PhysX tech into games whenever it can. A new Hawken trailer shows the effects of PhysX in the in the free-to-play stompy mech shooter, much the same as any other PhysX game: a big confusing mass of particles which look out of place.

Batman: Arkham City PC edition dated, PhysX effects unveiled

With the console editions of Batman: Arkham City out the Bat-door, publisher Warner Bros. has announced that the delayed PC version will follow on November 15. In celebration, graphics card manufacturer Nvidia is showing off the shiny PhysX and DirectX 11 effects exclusive to PC.

Mafia 2 Gets PhysX, 3D Vision Support

All three versions of Mafia II--PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360--will use NVIDIA's PhysX physics technology, publisher 2K Games announced today, with the PC version getting a "thorough integration" of PhysX plus some APEX clothing and particle effects.

In addition, Mafia II PC will support NVIDIA's 3D Vision headset for stereoscopic 3D visuals when the game hits August 24 in North America and August 27 elsewhere. Read more »

Preview: Dark Void's PC-Exclusive 3D and PhysX Effects in Action

In their suite at CES, publisher Capcom showed off the finished PC version of Airtight's Dark Void running on some beefy machines to show off the support for Nvidia's 3D Vision and PhysX effects. After playing for a while, I found they both enhanced the game when used individually but didn't work together too well.

Batman: Arkham Asylum PC Delayed, Gets PhysX

Once expected to hit alongside the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions on August 25, the PC release of Batman: Arkham Asylum has been pushed back to September 15 in North America and September 18 in Europe, publishers Warner Bros. and Eidos said today.

In addition, the pair revealed that the PC edition of Rocksteady's detective comic brawler will make use of the PhysX technology supported by NVIDIA's GeForce hardware. Read more »

While ATI launches new hardware, rival Nvidia today released a new set of drivers that adds support for AGEIA's PhysX physics acceleration technology to the existing GeForce 8, GeForce 9, and GeForce GTX 200-series cards.

The new drivers are part of the free GeForce Power Pack, which also contains a PhysX-enabling mod for Epic's Unreal Tournament 3, the full version of NetDevil's physics-heavy title Warmonger, and a few tech demos, including a fluid simulation. Read more »

Nvidia Adding PhysX Processing to Existing GPUs Next Week, Developers Line Up with Support

Hardware manufacturer Nvidia is set to add PhysX support to several lines of its graphics cards on August 12, according to Tech Report.

Nvidia GeForce 8, GeForce 9, and GeForce GTX 200-series cards will support the new physics acceleration initially.

PhysX began as Ageia Technologies' attempt at a dedicated hardware physics processor. The idea of an expensive physics processing card never took off, and Nvidia purchased Aegia in February of this year, announcing that it would directly incorporate Aegia's technology into its line of cards. Hardware manufacturer Nvidia, which just purchased physics technology developer AGEIA, is porting AGEIA's PhysX engine software to run on its GeForce 8 cards, according to The Tech Report.

During a financial call, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hseun Huang revealed that the ported engine will bring enhanced physics capabilities to all of the company's existing GeForce 8 cards, as it will be programmed in CUDA. Read more »

Hardware manufacturer Nvidia today announced its plans to acquire physics technology developer AGEIA, with the company stating it will integrate AGEIA's PhysX technology into its future line of GeForce graphics cards.

Now available at FileShack is Warmonger - Operation: Downtown Destruction, the free Unreal Engine 3 powered multiplayer shooter from Auto Assault developer NetDevil.

The 437mb download includes six levels featuring a wide array of destructable objects and buildings. An AGEIA PhysX accelerator is required to get the most out of this game, however it will run without one. Read more »
