Petroglyph concedes defeat in Victory Kickstarter

After a woefully slow start, Petroglyph Games has cancelled its crowdfunding drive for Victory. The studio founded by Westwood veterans was looking for $700,000 to make the free-to-play game it described as what you'd get "if World of Tanks, StarCraft and League of Legends had a baby," but after ten days only had $29,471 in pledges.

The strategy game developer behind End of Nations has taken the wraps off its its next hopeful project, Victory. The studio is turning to the popular trend of crowd-funding to the project that it says is an amalgamation of "World of Tanks, StarCraft and League of Legends."

Petroglyph teases new WWII game Victory

Petroglyph Games, developer of End of Nations, is teasing its next project: a new World War II title called Victory.

The studio, which has staff from the original Command & Conquer, is expected to announce more details by March 5, based on the countdown it is doing on its Facebook page. This would not be the first WWII game for the company, which released Panzer General: Allied Assault for XBLA in 2009.

Now that Trion Worlds has taken over development of End of Nations, Petroglyph Studios is moving on to other projects, confirming that 19 people have been let go as a result of the end of its involvement with the free-to-play MMORTS.

Between the indefinite delay of the open beta of MMORTS End of Nations and reported layoffs at developer Petroglyph, publisher Trion Worlds has taken development of the troubled title in-house to create "a more polished game."

End of Nations developer Petroglyph has reportedly laid off 30 employees. This news comes just a week after we received word that the game's open beta had been delayed indefinitely and the alpha was being taken offline.

Trion Worlds has already held four closed betas for its upcoming free-to-play MMORTS End of Nations, but apparently there are still plenty of troublesome issues to be worked out. The company has announced that the planned open beta for the game has been delayed indefinitely.

End of Nations will be free-to-play

The busy season of gaming is almost upon us, and that means spending lots of money to keep up with your gaming habit. If you've been looking at the release calendar and calculating how many pints of blood you have to sell (answer: 30), good news!
