Payday 2 lets you rob a bank as Santa

Santa is a master at breaking in to places he shouldn't be. But what if instead of giving gifts to little children, he was robbing banks? That's the premise of the first "annual" Christmas heist for Payday 2.

The PC version will be updated for free with the brand new "Charlie Santa" heist. In an unexpected twist, the bank will be based on a map from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Payday 2 sells 1.5 million, director says versus possible for sequel

Payday 2 has been pretty successful, garnering generally positive reviews and apparent financial success. The team at Overkill is now thinking about what they might do for a sequel, and the oft-requested (and obvious) cops-and-robbers versus mode is on the table.

Payday 2 planning a year of DLC, including female robbers

Payday 2 is launching today, but like any career criminal it will always be looking for that last big score. Overkill apparently has a full year of downloadable content planned, and among the plans are the ability to pull heists as the fairer sex.

Payday 2 'too big' for just digital release, also coming to retail

Payday 2 'too big' for just digital release, also coming to retail

Payday 2, the sequel to 2011's Payday: The Heist, is no longer a download exclusive. Publisher 505 Games and developer Overkill Software announced today that in addition to its digital releases, the game will be available at retail for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

David Goldfarb said in a press release: "We have a bit of a problem here at Overkill--there are just too many great ideas and none that we were really happy to throw out--so Payday 2 has become just too big to reserve release on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network alone."

Payday 2 preview: planning the perfect heist

Payday 2 preview: planning the perfect heist

"Imagine the perfect robbery: you know the blueprints inside out, when the guards go for their coffee breaks, and exactly how to get into the safe. Everything goes without a hitch, and by the time the safe is found, you're laughing. Not a shot fired. Payday: The Heist doesn't work like that."

Eurogamer's review of the original Payday is an apt summary of what Payday could have been. That's not to say that Overkill's heist game was bad--far from it. But it lacked the brains to match the brute force of the game's cooperative shooting.

Enter Payday 2. Overkill, now owned by Starbreeze, has been given a second chance at making the Payday game they've always wanted to, offering players the chance to make the perfect score.
