Justin May, the man accused of trying to steal a copy of Breach during PAX East 2010, had his first day in court today, pleading not guilty to the charges levied against him.

May faces charges of larceny and trade secret after the events of the trade show. According to Breach maker Atomic Games, May "used his laptop to hack into an Xbox 360 Test Kit being used to demonstrate the game" and "downloaded about 14 megabytes" before fleeing the scene and eventually being apprehended by police. Developers Discuss Future of PC Gaming at PAX

It was a dark, albeit not that stormy, night as the "Future of PC Gaming (Yes, there is one!)" panel kicked off at PAX East around 10PM EST. Considering what the panelists had to say, the setting was oddly appropriate.

Across the hour-long discussion, two things were abundantly clear. First, things need to change, and they're not going to do so overnight. Second, "Honestly, I think PC gaming isn't where it was ten years ago and it's never going to be there again." Read more »

Monday Night Combat Preview: It's Like Team Fortress 2 and DotA Made a Baby

You wouldn't know it by looking at the game, but Monday Night Combat--a team-centric third-person shooter coming to Xbox Live Arcade--is being made by some strategy game veterans.

Uber Entertainment, the studio behind MNC, is staffed by some Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander veterans from Gas Powered Games. But just because it's a shooter doesn't mean they've forgotten their roots. Read more »

At PAX East 2010, a man reportedly attempted to steal the code for Breach, the new multiplayer shooter from Atomic Games, which I had a chance to play before the show.A man had been seen hanging around the Breach booth on the show floor with a laptop. Penny Arcade Adventures Series Cancelled

After two outings, the interactive adventures of Gabe and Tycho are no more, as Penny Arcade artist Mike "Gabe" Krahulik told Joystiq "there won't be an Episode 3."

A four-episode series inspired by Krahulik and Jerry "Tycho" Holkins' game-centric webcomic, Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode 1 debuted on PC and Xbox Live Arcade in May 2008, followed by a PlayStation 3 release and then Episode 2 in October 2008. Read more »

LIMBO Preview: A Profound Silence

The first project out of independent developer PlayDead, LIMBO is a stylish black-and-white side-scroller that simply must be experienced.

The downloadable game, coming to Xbox 360 sometime this summer, presents a variety of environmental obstacles. To overcome those obstacles, players must carefully explore the surrounding area, avoiding traps and hazards while looking for a solution.

The entirety of the experience revolves around that sense of exploration and experimentation. The bulk of the time a player spends in the game will be spent trying to figure out these these puzzles--pushing, pulling, jumping, and so on. Once you know the solution to the puzzles, that's it--there's no real challenge, as the various attendees of PAX East learned first-hand by watching others play while waiting in line. Read more »

Crackdown 2 Multiplayer Impressions: The Orb Has Been Captured, Dropped and Captured Again

The goal of Rocket Tag, one of the two Crackdown 2 multiplayer modes available to play here at PAX East, is simple. Grab the shiny thing, and hold on to it as long as you can.

Everyone else? You've got a rocket launcher. Kill the guy with the shiny thing. He's hard to miss. He's the one with the shiny glowing thing.

The result, as you'd expect, is pure explosive chaos. Even with only eight players in the match--half of the game's maximum--there were rockets everywhere. Getting close to the shiny was nearly as dangerous as holding the shiny itself. You have to understand. Everyone is going after this one dude. Everyone can see where he is. Everyone wants to kill him and take the shiny for themselves, and hold on to it for as long as they can--roughly twenty or thirty seconds, in my experience. Read more »

Red Dead Redemption Preview: 30 Minutes in Rockstar's Wild West

Ever since it was first announced, I've been thinking of Red Dead Redemption as "Grand Theft Cowboy." And now that I've had a chance to actually go hands-on with Rockstar's wild western, I can say that isn't too far off.

Almost everything you'd expect from a Grand Theft Auto--a huge open-world, an assortment of memorable characters, stand downs, shootouts, and enough distractions to keep one busy for quite some time--are here in full force, complete with an old-timey twist. Read more »

Hands-on Preview: Breach

On Monday, Atomic Games announced Breach with little to no detail. Today, they stopped holding back. The game uses technology developed for Six Days in Fallujah to offer fully-destructible buildings and cover.

The game is playable at PAX East 2010, but I had a chance to play a build of the game on the Xbox 360 earlier this week and I came away impressed. The game is still a little rough around the edges, lacking the polish of a final version, but I had a really great time playing against Atomic's QA team. Read more »
