Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions Dev Beenox Named Lead on Upcoming Spidey Games

Say, Spider-fans, how did you feel about Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions? Your reaction to the game will probably mirror your reaction to this piece of news--Beenox, the developer behind it, has been named lead dev for upcoming Activision Spidey titles.

"Beenox has done a tremendous job showcasing the essence of Spider-Man while pushing new creative boundaries with Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions," said Todd Jefferson, director of games at Marvel Entertainment's Global Digital Media Group. LIMBO, Red Dead Redemption, and Mass Effect 2 Most Nominated Games for 11th Annual GDC Awards

The nominees for the 11th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards have been announced, meaning that we now get to see what games the international panel of industry professionals felt are in the running to be acknowledged for the greatest overall achievements over the past year. (via Gamasutra)

The Xbox Live Arcade exclusive, LIMBO, leads the charge with seven nominations, followed closely by Red Dead Redemption (six nominations) and Mass Effect 2 (five nominations). All three front-runners are in the running for GDC's Game of the Year award. Pioneer, Ambassador and Lifetime Achievement Special Awards, as well as the host of this year's awards show, have yet to be revealed. Read more »

Guitar Hero DLC: Nine Inch Nails, A Day to Remember, HIM and More

A trio of tracks from veteran sulkers Nine Inch Nails are coming to Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock today as part of a ten-pack mega-pack of downloadable content, including that song with the rude bit. You know the one. Trent and the gang are joined by A Day to Remember, The Damned Things, Hawthorne Heights, HIM and The Used.

Tracks will cost $2 (160 Microsoft Points; 200 Wii Points) a pop but if your tastes are a little eclectic, you can buy the whole lot for $18 (1440 MS Points; 1800 Wii Points). Read more »

EA CEO: Digital Sales Will Beat Retail in 2011

Linkin Park DLC Coming to Rock Band 3 Tomorrow

Beginning tomorrow, new downloadable content featuring Linkin Park will arrive for budding artists rocking out to fresh copies of Rock Band 3 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. The tracks, which include the 2001 smash-hit "In the End," can be acquired individually or as a bundle.

The "Linkin Park Pack 01" bundle will set players back $9.99 (800MS Points, 1000 Wii Points) or for $2 per song (160MS Points, 200 Wii Points). Several songs, those marked with an X in the track list below, will also offer Pro Guitar and Pro Bass expansions for an extra $0.99 (80 MS Points; 100 Wii Points) per song. Read more »

GameFly Reveals Top Games of 2010

Shacknews parent company GameFly has revealed the top ten games of 2010 across all platforms and for each of the six platforms rented.

"The list reflects the year's most requested games, as indicated by members' GameQ, a personal wish list of games available for rent," explains GameFly, meaning that a user only needed to queue the game for rental, not actually receive the title in the mail. Read more »

It's easy to crack jokes about sparkly gloves and the eerie digital spectre of a deceased pop star but Michael Jackson: The Experience is another handy reminder that many types of video games are popular, not only those about shooting people in the face.

The dance 'em up has sold-through two million units since launching on November 23, Ubisoft announced today. The publisher notes that this figure doesn't include Japan, where the game has yet to launch but "which has one of the largest and most passionate concentrations of Michael Jackson fans anywhere."
