Ascend: Hand of Kul out F2P on XBLA

Microsoft announced back at E3 2012 that it was bringing a free-to-play action-RPG to Xbox Live Arcade, then seemed to forget about it. Well, Ascend: Hand of Kul quietly launched yesterday, so give it a go if you fancy murdering monsters without paying a penny, at least to check out its single-player/multiplayer crossover ideas.

Ryse: Son of Rome gladiator multiplayer revealed

Ryse: Son of Rome gladiator multiplayer revealed

As you'd probably guessed, Crytek's Xbox One exclusive historical murder simulator Ryse: Son of Rome will indeed have multiplayer. Microsoft today revealed its co-operative 'Gladiator' mode, which throws chaps into an arena to cut each others' faces off. Well, at least it looks less like an absurd charade of QTEs than the E3 campaign demo.

Fable Anniversary holding fan achievement contest

Fable Anniversary holding fan achievement contest

Fable Anniversary is putting a fresh coat of paint on the original Fable. Sadly, when the first game was released, "Achievements" weren't even a thing yet. I know, it's hard to imagine! So as part of its modernizing, Lionhead is coming up with new achievements, and inviting players to make one up themselves.

State of Decay update 2 out today

State of Decay update 2 out today

It started in Australia but didn't stay there for long. Within hours it was rolling across borders and drifting across seas, a wave of undead crashing against shores. The second State of Decay title update is rolling out today, I'm saying. The patch notes list a grand 56 changes, from bug fixes to balance tweaks.

State of Decay declared 'fastest selling original game ever' on XBLA

State of Decay declared 'fastest selling original game ever' on XBLA

After selling 250,000 copies in two days, it was pretty clear State of Decay would do pretty well for itself. The open-world zombie 'em up passed 500,000 sales within its first week, publisher Microsoft Studios has announced, declaring it "the fastest selling original game ever on Xbox Live Arcade." The "original" bit is to exclude Minecraft, see.

What now? Undead Labs is still working on patches, apparently doesn't have too much to do on the PC edition, and making a sandbox mode. Beyond that, well, there's still its dream of a full-on zombie MMO, codenamed 'Class4'.

Zoo Tycoon coming to Xbox One and 360 from Kinectimals dev

Microsoft is drawing Zoo Tycoon back from extinction, revealing during E3 that it's brought the zoo management series back for Xbox One and Xbox 360. As one might expect from Kinectimals creator Frontier Developments, the new game also named simply Zoo Tycoon plays up the 'staring at cute animals' side even more, and disconcertingly this may be the main focus.

Below coming to Xbox One from Superbrothers co-creator

Fewer indie developers were featured in Microsoft's pre-E3 press conference than one might hope for, but one of the few present certainly piqued our interest. Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP co-creator Capybara Games revealed Below, a mysterious rouguelike-like exclusive to Xbox One.

New Halo announced for Xbox One, coming 2014

You'll never guess what, right: Microsoft's making a new Halo game for the Xbox One. I know! The as-yet-unnamed game is due in 2014 and all we can safely say for certain is that it features some manner of colossal robot-space-angel. Sure, that'll do nicely.

Crimson Dragon coming to Xbox One

Even after a demo leaked onto Xbox Live Arcade in January, we've heard little from Panzer Dragoon creator Yukio Futatsugi's dragon-y Kinect shooter Crimson Dragon. No release date, no further details. Nothing. Oh. That's probably because developer Grounding Inc has been working on bringing it to Xbox One.
