Hugh Jackman once considered for Metal Gear movie

Hugh Jackman once considered for Metal Gear movie

Now that the Metal Gear Solid movie is a go, who will step into the iconic shoes of Solid Snake? Series creator Hideo Kojima had originally wanted a star like Hugh Jackman, but has since reconsidered. A "rising star would be better suited for the role," a new report by Clevver details, because actors like Jackman are already "associated with a particular character." Oh Jackman, you'll always be Leopold in our hearts.

Metal Gear Rising TGS trailer shows off so many cyborgs

It's refreshing to see a Metal Gear that wholly embraces its bizarre and campy nature. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance's latest trailer from Tokyo Game Show is more than five minutes long and shows off a variety of new cyborg foes. See Raiden cut through robot dogs, a multi-armed-robo-lady (above), and best of all--see Mexican Raiden.

MGS Ground Zeroes not 'Project Ogre,' says Kojima

MGS Ground Zeroes not 'Project Ogre,' says Kojima

We've been told for quite a while that Project Ogre is Kojima Productions' open-world debut to show off the new FOX Engine. So last week when the developer showed off Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, an open-world game running on the FOX Engine, many of us naturally assumed the two were one-in-the-same. But you know what they say about assuming.

Morning Caffeinated! -- Greenlight mail, ladies of the evening, and ArenaNet kudos

Welcome to the Friday edition of the Morning Caffeinated, folks. Read it for your you morning jolt of gaming goodness to get you through the day leading into the glorious weekend.

I don't know about you, but the season premiere of Doctor Who is looking really good for tomorrow evening. If you've been in Chatty, then you know I've been enjoying the Pond Life prequel episodes. From the good Doctor alarming Rory and Amy into a sleepless night or the "Ood on the loo" (as Ambient80 so eloquently put it), they have been pretty entertaining and a good tease for season 7. The last one is up today and is a bit more ominous than the last four. Will be interesting to see how it all ties together with the Daleks tomorrow night.

Metal Gear Solid movie back on with Avi Arad

Metal Gear Solid movie back on with Avi Arad

There have been several attempts at a Metal Gear Solid movie over the years, and one terrifying prank involving Uwe Boll, but one's properly in production now at Columbia Pictures. Avi Arad, who's produced two decades of Marvel's comic book movies--both good and bad--is attached, and quite enthusiastic.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance PC edition will be considered after launch

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance PC edition will be considered after launch

When Konami originally announced Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance at E3 2009 under the more sensible name of Metal Gear Solid: Rising, it had planned to release a PC edition. This notion was casually dropped when the game was reborn at PlatinumGames, but now Konami has said it'll "contemplate" making a PC port after it launches the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection goes downloadable this month

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection goes downloadable this month

Perhaps you didn't want to revisit Raiden's naked body in HD? Or maybe you were afraid of creating high-definition time paradoxes? If for some reason you didn't want the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and only wanted to buy each game piecemeal, now's your chance.

Starting August 21, Konami will be offering each game in the HD Collection separately. The release schedule and line-up is different across every platform, however.

Metal Gear Solid 4 trophy patch also adds installation option

Metal Gear Solid 4 trophy patch also adds installation option

Unless you enjoyed watching Snake smoke a cigarette, one of the most frustrating aspects of playing Metal Gear Solid 4 was enduring the lengthy mandatory installation screens between each chapter. It was a jarring process, one that interrupted the flow of the game (and was arguably worse than having to swap discs). Thankfully, next week's trophy patch for MGS4 also adds a new option: the ability to install all of the game data to your hard drive, removing these pesky mid-game breaks.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer teaches slicing and dicing

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer teaches slicing and dicing

The big gimmick of awkwardly-named, action-packed off-shoot Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is Raiden's ability to carefully prune enemies of undesirable body parts with precision strokes of his sword. But gosh, you may ask, how ever does this work in practice? Have a gander at a new snippet from the game's tutorial.

Metal Gear Solid 4 getting trophy patch

When trophies were first introduced to PlayStation 3 years ago, many fans had hoped that Konami would release a patch for Metal Gear Solid 4. While hopes were long dashed, it seems fans voices have finally been heard.

Four years after the game made its debut, the Guns of the Patriots will be getting its long-overdue trophy patch. The patch will coincide with the Japanese budget reissue of the game in August.

Metal Gear Solid HD for Vita isn't HD

Metal Gear Solid HD for Vita isn't HD

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection just made it to the Vita, offering sneaking on the go. But contrary to its name, it isn't quite HD, failing to run at Vita's native 540p resolution, to boot. Astute pixel-counters have noticed a few graphical shortcuts in the game, but it isn't all bad news.
