Captain America: The Winter Soldier iOS & Android game coming from Gameloft

Another Marvel movie is hitting theaters soon, which means another licensed Gameloft game is hitting smartphones. Gameloft is making an iOS and Android game based on Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It will be available in late March, just in time for the movie's April 4th release.

"Players can expect a truly involved Captain America experience, with many characters from both the movie and the comics," Gameloft VP Karine Kaiser said in the announcement. The game will have players controlling Captain America leading a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in a battle against various Marvel villains. The story is "inspired" by the film, but won't be exactly the same.

Marvel Run Jump Smash! announced, coming to mobile this year

In spite of billion dollar ticket sales, The Avengers never got a proper video game adaptation. That is, until now. In Marvel Run Jump Smash!, players will chase Loki through the streets of New York--just like in the movie!

Disney Interactive senior producer Phil Hong is careful not to use the term "endless runner," instead calling the game a "super-powered action runner." Unlike other games in the genre, you'll be able to switch between the different Avengers, each equipped with their own powers.

Thor: The Dark World iOS game coming from Gameloft

Saturday's Marvel Video Games panel at Comic-Con was quick to point out that Thor hasn't done too well in the world of gaming. He spent most of the 90's relegated to cameo roles, some of which weren't even him. Though history seems to be working against them, Marvel hopes to bring the God of Thunder's games to greater prominence.

Field Report: Marvel Heroes

Field Report: Marvel Heroes

Marvel Heroes has landed with a slew of expectations. Beyond carrying the Hulk-sized weight of being the first major MMO based on the Marvel license, it's also being followed closely by many Diablo fans, because of David Brevik's close involvement in the project. Marvel Heroes doesn't quite come off as a completely superheroic experience, but its engaging story and satisfying combat system does make it worth assembling for.

Marvel Heroes preview: balancing gods

The greatest strength of Marvel Heroes is one of its biggest challenges. The Marvel brand, for all its iconic larger-than-life characters, comes with the weight of expectations and lore behind it. The game is prioritizing pure mechanics over canon, and having spent some time with it at PAX East, it seems to be pulling it off beautifully.

Former Microsoft exec claims Xbox created because Sony didn't want to 'be a friend'

Former Microsoft exec claims Xbox created because Sony didn't want to 'be a friend'

Microsoft made significant inroads in the console wars with the Xbox 360, stealing market share from the once-dominant PlayStation brand. However, Microsoft wasn't always interested in entering the console market. In fact, according to a former Microsoft exec, the company only entered the console market because Sony refused to work with them.

Joachim Kempin was VP of Windows Sales at Microsoft for 20 years, having left the company in 2003, two years after the launch of the original Xbox. He said that the main reason Microsoft jumped into the console market was "to stop Sony."
