Kerbal Space Program video introduces asteroids

Kerbal Space Program is taking a brief side step from its normal bout of updates to introduce the concept of asteroid redirection. In an effort to make it feel more like a real space mission and less like something out of a Bruce Willis movie, developer Squad is collaborating with NASA on this latest addition to the game and has revealed some new video of asteroid redirection in action.

This War of Mine preview: war and peace

Forget everything you know about war's portrayal in video games. It's not glamorous, it's not an adrenaline-rush, and it certainly isn't representative of real war. Until now, war in video games has been portrayed as a black-and-white struggle, where the main goal is to win. But there are no winners in war, especially when you're a civilian on the battlefield.

This War of Mine from 11-Bit Studios is a grim look into wartime from the eyes of civilians, an idea inspired by real-life events. The objective isn't to win, it's simply to survive. To learn more about the game, Shacknews got to take a first look at the game with senior writer Pawel Miechowski.

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls just released late last night, but Blizzard is giving players something to look forward to in the months ahead. Paradox Interactive picks up Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity

Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester has announced that the publisher has picked up the publishing rights to Obsidian Entertainment's Pillars of Eternity. The new partnership will allow the War of the Vikings and Europa Universalis IV publisher to focus on the game's marketing, sales, and Kickstarter goal fulfillment, while Obsidian remains free to focus purely on the game's development.

SimCity gets offline play today

It's taken quite a long time, but EA and Maxis' SimCity reboot finally finally has an official offline mode.

"We've listened to our players and today we are delivering against their most direct feedback with the release of the new Single-Player Mode,” Maxis' Patrick Buechner said. According to Maxis, the offline mode now requires calculations to be done locally on a player's computer. "gains in optimization to the GlassBox Engine" enabled this to be possible.
