There's a new Star Wars game coming, and as expected, it's dubbed 1313. On the latest episode of GameTrailers TV, Dominic Robilliard, creative director of the project, described it as a game where you play a bounty hunter in the most dangerous part of the galaxy far, far away--an area beneath the surface of Coruscant called 1313.

BioWare and Electronic Arts are planning yet another attempt to harness more new blood to populate Star Wars: The Old Republic. Starting this Thursday, May 17 at 12:01 AM CDT, the MMOs latest Weekend Pass Free Trial will be open to all those who haven't participated in any previous trials for the game set long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away.

We humans are a curious bunch. We can know that something is bad, but feel strangely compelled to experience it ourselves so we have a laugh at just how bad it is. This is the mindset that grants disproportionate success to B-movies, disgusting foods, and the Jersey Shore. So when you hear that Kinect Star Wars is an "absolute disappointment," you're probably tempted to try it yourself. But how to do that without actually paying for it with money?

Lucas plans on launching yet another extension of his Star Wars franchise. Last week, the company bought a number of domains regarding a project likely to be titled "Star Wars 1313." The company now owns 1313starwars.com and starwars1313.com, which has many fans wondering what this mysterious project could be.
Whatever it is, it will be a video game, new evidence reveals.

Lighter server populations--especially during peak hours--have led some to believe that Star Wars: The Old Republic is shedding subscribers only four months after launch. Not so, says developer BioWare. Subscription numbers are steady, it claims, but the developer does concede that the game has seen a dip in logins. To that end, the BioWare is up for trying "anything and everything" to increase user engagement.

The recently-released Kinect Star Wars game has caused a disrupting in the Force, thanks to its now-infamous dancing mini-game. To refuel the calories burned by LucasArts' controller-free mini-game experience, they've teamed up with 7-Eleven and Lipton for a unique promo that unlocks new content in the game.

The moment I saw Kinect, my greatest childhood fantasy flashed before me and I thought, "How long before I could have a lightsaber fight?" However, as the release date for Kinect Star Wars drew nearer, I felt a disturbance in the Force. It was as if millions of Star Wars fans suddenly cried out in terror and were as abruptly silenced. Sure enough, my childhood has taken yet another punch to the gut. Imprecise controls, awkward presentation, and baffling use of the license make Kinect Star Wars about as much fun as being Force choked by Darth Vader.

The second major content update for MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is slated to go live next month. In case you didn't know, MMO's are expensive to make. When it comes to BioWare's recently-released Star Wars: The Old Republic, "expensive" equates to roughly $200 million. That doesn't even include the projected "tens of millions" of additional funds that will be expended on a yearly basis to keep a certain galaxy far, far away fresh with new content.

The 1.1 update for Star Wars: The Old Republic launched today, bringing with it the "Rise of the Rakghouls," along with some unintended exploits that understandably have the game's community up in arms. The biggest problem seems to center around turret-farming in the high-level areas of Illum, which encourages large groups to camp the spawn-points of giant turrets. The problem seems to be exacerbated by the factional imbalances, wherein Imperial players still significantly outnumber those on the Republic side.

The official Star Wars: The Old Republic community forums have been abuzz with complaints from players who've been wondering why most high-resolution textures in BioWare's MMO have gone missing after the game launched. After some promised investigation, word has finally come out as to why said textures have vanished, and while it makes sense, it's probably not the answer that player were hoping for.

I've still got seemingly countless hours to go before I save the galaxy in the name of the Republic. Now that my Jedi Shadow Bukowski has reached level twenty-three in Star Wars: The Old Republic, I've been able to spend some time delving into things like crafting, assigning points to my skills, and have even participated in some epic-looking space combat in my new personal starship. With a few caveats, these additional systems and gameplay mechanics have continued to add welcome layers to the MMO that is engaging me in a way that few others have before.

A bizarre game classification in Australia has kicked up speculation over what it could mean. The classification is for a PC game called "Paper, Scissors, Stone" from both BioWare and LucasArts, with EA as the publisher. That may be strange enough, but it's also described with the following terms: "Science fiction themes, violence and drug references; Online content variable." All of that makes it sound exactly like Star Wars: The Old Republic, besides the funny name.

It seems that this universe is only big enough for one Star Wars-themed MMO. Before BioWare's The Old Republic can begin, it seems that Sony Online Entertainment's Star Wars Galaxies must come to an end. In a letter sent to community members, SOE and LucasArts details plans to shut down all services for Star Wars Galaxies, including both the MMO and trading card game. "The shutdown of SWG is a very difficult decision, but SOE and LucasArts have mutually agreed that the end of 2011 is the appropriate time to end the game," the official notice reads. Service for the game will end on December 15th.
However, it appears Galaxies will not enter the MMO graveyard quietly. In fact, SOE is planning a "galaxy-ending event" that will become available during the last week of service. The final chapter of the game will be "written in part by the dedicated and passionate SWG community," although exact details on how fans can participate haven't been revealed. Read more »

Joystiq has received confirmation from LucasArts that the company has made a "minor adjustment in staffing" in the form of some company layoffs today. The information came via a tweet by developer George Broussard (#georgeb3dr) earlier today.
Broussard asserts in a subsequent tweet that those laid off "come from a team working on an unannounced game," though few specifics have been confirmed by LucasArts. Read more »
