You have your marching orders, soldier. Arm your mech and deploy for Late Night Computing on October 3, 2012.
Now that the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for the closed-beta of MechWarrior Online has lifted, I can talk about the game! I've been in the closed beta since early August and have yet to tire of the game. Of course, my first mech addiction was EarthSiege 2, so I'm sure this doesn't surprise you.
Although marching through the wilderness in an Atlas class assault mech is an awesome feeling, my favorite loadout is the Jenner scout class armed with four medium lasers and beefed up armor. It's easy to be overwhelmed, but the first time I picked apart an enemy assault mech was when I knew I would be with this game until the end. Is anyone else enjoying it?

October 2, 2012. Do you not know the date? You do now. Yes, you're welcome. Here's a Late Night Computing to sooth your ruffled feathers.
Hello there, ladies and gentlemen. How's your day going? Hopefully well enough. Borderlands 2 is beginning to take a toll on me. Just when I think I'm close to being finished, another exclamation point pops up on the mini-map. What am I supposed to do? Ignore it? Ha, good one. The task must be completed. There is no other way.

October is here, and the baseball playoffs are near. Hit a home run with Late Night Computing for October 1, 2012.
My favorite baseball team, the Pittsburgh Pirates, clinched their 20th losing season in a row facing the Cincinnati Reds yesterday. It was a sad day for me, Shack. I knew it was coming. The collapse looked so distant in July - but most of us who follow the Bucs closely knew they were playing way above their talent level the middle-half of the season and so the collapse was inevitable. Maybe next year, we'll say. Maybe next year.

Begin your weekend with a healthy dose of Late Night Computing for September 28, 2012.
It's finally here! The season premiere of the last thirteen episodes of Fringe is tonight. I can't wait to catch more of the future the writers have in store for us over the next several episodes. Everything has (for the most part) tied together quite nicely, so I'm hoping they take advantage of this opportunity to go out with a bang. I'll be keeping an eye out for the Observers. You keep an eye out for Slenderman.

Thursday evening beckons, but not before we let you out of here after reading Late Night Computing for September 27, 2012.
Finally! After having an episode of rage quit over Borderlands 2, I returned to my go-to game lately in FTL: Faster than Light. Although it's been a bit of a chore, since I keep coming up with brilliant ways to kill myself, I finally made it to the end successfully. I promptly gave each of my crew a promotion to captain after my virtual slaughter concluded.
Now, to unlock the rest of the ships.

We're officially halfway through this week, so what better way than to celebrate with Late Night Computing for September 26, 2012.
Lots of goodies were announced today, including a preview of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and its zombie mode. The most interesting thing to me is the Mass Effect Trilogy compendium. All three games for $59.99? Ok, you have my attention. Really though, I'd really rather have an announcement after all of the Mass Effect 3 downloadable content is published with all three titles and all of the DLC content included. It's one of the few series I'd go out of my way to re-buy the'complete' package, but without including all of the DLC.....it can't really be called a 'complete' collection sadly. Maybe next year, BioWare?

Oh hey, it's the end of September 25, 2012. Guess that means its time for another Late Night Computing session.
My night was filled with the howls of psychos echoing through the valleys of Borderlands 2, but I still haven't progressed very far. My save file says I've got around 10 hours in at level 13. Seems a bit low, right? Maybe I need to stop goofing about with the slots machine at Moxxi's and roaming the wasteland to actually progress the story a bit. And this, this is why open world games cause me to sigh rather deeply before diving in.

Unce unce unce, wub wub wub, it's time for Late Night Computing for September 24, 2012.
Borderlands 2 finally arrived after a shipping-delay caused me some slight irritation this last weekend. My old roleplaying habits have resurfaced a few times, causing me to go exploring only to find myself a rather long distance from my mission waypoint. Respawning enemy encampments are possibly the bane of my existence. At least Claptrap has kept me entertained through these periods of plight.

Happy Friday, September 21, 2012, Shackers! Late Night Computing is firing on all thrusters, but its captain is sadly not.
I'm still slightly under the weather, hoping things will clear up over the weekend. My eyes have been glazed over for most of the week, leading to some entertaining mistakes in my bouts of FTL: Faster Than Light. Quite a few crew members have died from my negligance. The most recent? Poor Yuri suffocated to death while repairing the medical bay since I forgot to close the airlocks.

It's Thursday, September 20, 2012. The weekend begins tomorrow night, horray! So let's do this Late Night Computing thing.
My voyages into deep space continue with the utterly fantastic FTL: Faster Than Light. I've only made it to the end-game once before having my hull annihilated, sadly. In the down time, I've been thinking about what I'd like to see if Subset Games were to release modding tools in the future. You have the usual suspects in Star Trek, Star Wars, Firefly, and Battlestar Galactica, but what I'd really like to see is a Mass Effect mod.

Arrr, today is September 19, 2012, talk like a pirate day. Come aboard the SS Late Night Computing, savvy?
HTC had their smartphone conference today, and I have to say I'm rather impressed with the products they churned out for Windows Phone 8. The 8X is looking like an excellent flagship competitor to the Nokia Lumia 920. The best I hoped for was something akin to a One X running the new Windows Phone 8 OS, but HTC outdid themselves. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to get my hands on a showroom demo version of both the Lumia 920 and 8X. I really want to see how their screens compare up close.

Greetings Traveller! There are new missions available at the Late Night Computing Bounty-board for September 18, 2012.
So tell me Shacknews, how is Borderlands 2? Is it everything we hoped it would be? Or is it just another mediocre title? I'm not looking to bother you much with some inane diatribe, but if you are playing Borderlands 2 do come back to our review by Steve Watts to compare notes. A good discussion is certainly in order!

Captain Taco's log, September 17, 2012. The SS Frittata has set course for Late Night Computing.
You guessed it, I've been playing FTL: Faster Than Light all weekend. Well, for most of it. Watching the Pittsburgh Pirates implode against the Chicago Cubs, and then witnessing my very own implosion in the Shack NFL Pick 'Em and Survival Leagues, took up the rest of my time. I started on normal difficulty and finally unlocked the Engi cruiser before my Kestrel had to jump back into a system swarming with the Rebel fleet. Not the SS Frittata's finest hour.

Did you miss me last night? I missed you, too! So I'm back again for the September 14, 2012 edition of Late Night Computing.
I really didn't have too much of an interest in playing the recently released FTL: Faster Than Light Kickstarter, but all this chatter in the chatty has poked a hole in my deflector shields. All of your stories have left me amused to no end, and I really need a break from my Dota 2 reading. Otherwise, I'm going to go bonkers. It's either that or watch my beloved Pittsburgh Pirates suffer at the hands of terrible opposing teams.
