It's the time of year for Game of the Year discussions, and Apple has once again crowned its official winners on its own iOS platforms. An update to the App Store lists Vlambeer's Ridiculous Fishing as the top iPhone game, and Frogmind's platformer Badland as the top iPad game.

Republique comes out of the shadows on December 19

Republique has officially hit the end of the road, going from Kickstarter project to full-blown release. The debut project from Camoflaj Games (founded by Halo 4 creative director Ryan Payton) will release on iOS this Thursday, December 19 as the first of four episodic installments.

Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign takes flight on October 3

Puzzle Quest is ready to make a comeback, thanks to Marvel Comics and Boston-based developer Demiurge Studios (Shoot Many Robots). The first iteration of the franchise since 2010 will feature Marvel's vast roster of superheroes and villains in Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign, which arrives tomorrow on iOS and Android.

Mobile review: Deus Ex: The Fall

Square Enix and Eidos Montreal surprised fans when they first announced that Deus Ex: The Fall would be coming to iTouch devices. Skepticism arose from whether a touch-screen tablet could handle the franchise's deep FPS mechanics. While Square Enix and mobile developer N-Fusion do manage to harness much of what made Deus Ex: Human Revolution great, the inherent limitations of iOS prevent The Fall from reaching greatness.

Deus Ex: The Fall is getting a fairly warm reception, but if you've modified your iOS device, you may want to resist buying the game. According to some early adopters, the game doesn't let you use guns if your device is jailbroken.
