Infamous: Second Son becomes a million seller in about a week

Infamous: Second Son has sold over a million copies in nine days, Sucker Punch and Sony have announced. That makes it the fastest-selling Infamous game to date. Although that figure includes both retail and Blu-ray sales from across the world, there are only about 6 million PS4s in the wild. That means 1 in every 6 PS4 owners decided to buy the game, an impressive feat.

Infamous: Second Son update will let you lower the framerate, change the time of day

Infamous: Second Son update will let you lower the framerate, change the time of day

PlayStation is all about innovation. So while some competitors may attempt to increase resolution and framerate, Sony goes the other way. A new title update coming to Infamous: Second Son will give players the option to reduce the framerate.

A new 30 fps option will lock the framerate. Currently, the game renders with a variable framerate--something that Digital Foundry criticized. "While performance generally manages to stay north of 30fps, the resultant judder compromises the fluidity of the visuals and produces inconsistent controller response. With Second Son averaging around 35fps, the player receives little additional benefit as a result of this choice. By limiting the frame-rate to 30fps they could have delivered an open world game with a very consistent frame-rate and controller response," they noted.

Infamous 2's evil ending was supposed to be canon--until player data changed it

Infamous: Second Son had to make a decision: which ending of Infamous 2 would be made canon? Would it be the good or evil ending? According to studio head Nate Fox, the canonical ending was supposed to be evil--before player data changed the studio's direction.

Infamous: Second Son review: over-powered

Infamous: Second Son review: over-powered

After two (and a half) games, Sucker Punch has the core of Infamous down to a science. Firing off shots, lobbing bombs, and roaming an open city in Infamous: Second Son is as fun as it ever was in the prior two games. In fact, it's all so immediately recognizable that it feels as if the series has hit a creative rut, even as the fundamentals remain solid.

Infamous: Second Son videos show off good and evil powers

Infamous: Second Son videos show off good and evil powers

The Infamous series is primarily about two things: superpowers, and the deep dichotomy of good and evil that resides within all mankind. Being a generally good person will get you more peaceful powers to neutralize opponents, while being a jerk will steer your powers more towards super-powered murder. Two new Infamous: Second Son gameplay videos show off this deep philosophical split. And also superpowers.

Infamous started out like Animal Crossing

Infamous started out like Animal Crossing

Lots of games go through changes and iterations during development, but most of those changes aren't so radical that the project is barely recognizable in its conceptual phases. Infamous is one of those rare exceptions. With Second Son due out next week, Sucker Punch cofounder Chris ZImmerman has revealed that at its inception, the gritty superhero series had more in common with Nintendo's Animal Crossing.

Infamous: Second Son video shows off nine minutes of neon 'n smoke gameplay

Infamous: Second Son is coming in just a little over a week. A new nine minute gameplay video shows off Delsin and the two powers developer Sucker Punch has chosen to show off: smoke and neon. In this clip, you'll see him traversing the streets of Seattle mowing down bad guys (and civilians). Accompanying Delsin is "Fetch Walker," a Conduit who also has the power to control neon.

How Infamous: Second Son's hero got his power-absorbing ability

How Infamous: Second Son's hero got his power-absorbing ability

Infamous: Second Son is set to launch next week, marking one of the first big exclusives for the freshly launched PlayStation 4. It's also a departure from prior Infamous games, featuring a new protagonist who can absorb the powers of other super-beings. According to Sucker Punch, this is a direct response to decisions from Infamous 2 that they felt got too complex.

Infamous: Second Son live-action trailer gives a taste of dystopia

Live-action trailers are awfully popular these days, and with Infamous: Second Son cresting the horizon, it's apparently time for Sony to take a turn. A new trailer for the open-world action game gives a taste of its anti-superhero dystopia.

Infamous: Second Son preview: mayhem in Seattle

Infamous: Second Son preview: mayhem in Seattle

Delsin Rowe has quite the legacy to live up to in Infamous: Second Son. His predecessor, Cole MacGrath, left a lasting impression on PS3 owners over the course of multiple games. The new frontman of the Infamous franchise does have a lot going for him, though. Developer Sucker Punch has given him a vast sandbox to explore, a new anti-Conduit threat to deal with, and a brand new slew of powers to master.

Of course, it wouldn't be an Infamous game if there wasn't a morality scale in place. Just like Cole before him, Delsin will have his own choices to make that will either shape him into a Conduit savior or an unrepentant killer. Shacknews was given the opportunity to briefly step into both roles at a special PlayStation event earlier this week.

"When I ask international friends what they think of Seattle, right off the top of their head," inFamous: Second Son game director Nate Fox muses in a new trailer, "They're like, 'Oh man! Rain!'" It's no surprise, then, that the PS4-exclusive superhero 'em up has some awfully pretty weather effects, and developer Sucker Punch is keen to show them off in a new trailer.
