Valve's working with the folks behind popular Counter-Strike mod Gun Game to officially add a similar mode to the downloadable Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it announced today. On top of that, we have new screenshots for you to gawp at.

Valve mentioned last week that it hoped to have cross-platform multiplayer in its downloadble Counter-Strike revamp Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and, lo and behold, it's now official. Between PC, Mac and PlayStation 3, at least. A whole host of other details have spilled forth too.

Valve wants Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to be cross-platform

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is planned for PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360--but ideally, Valve wants you to be able to square off against players of any platform. "We never want to create these 'islands of players'," Valve boss Gabe Newell said at Gamescom.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive announced

Valve has just announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a new game in its wildly popular Counter-Strike franchise. The team-based shooter is targeting Steam (PC and Mac), PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade for early 2012. CS: GO (as it's being called) is being developed at Valve with help from Hidden Path Entertainment, a Seattle studio that cut its Counter-Strike teeth lending a hand on Source updates.
