Nintendo's GameCube

Related Topics – GameCube, Nintendo, Sony

Joel Erickson and haiku sent along this story from MSNBC where a number of game developer discuss their dealings / experience working with Nintendo on their next-generation console system which Nintendo has been incredibly silent about. It's a really lengthy piece that also analyzes the risks and possible rewards for Microsoft and their X-Box system. Here's one developer on GameCube:

I did not know what to expect when I began work on GAMECUBE, says one famous game designer who did not want to reveal his name or his company for fear of retribution from Sony. The graphics surprised us. They were better than we expected,... better than what we have seen on PlayStation 2 or Xbox. Other developers seem to share this opinion. Judging by overall developer confidence, there seems to be tremendous confidence in GAMECUBE right now,... [screenshots]
Considering how quiet Nintendo has been speculation had begun that perhaps Nintendo was shifting the majority of their focus on the GameBoy Advance which is almost a sure fire hit with minimal competition. I just cant wait for the new Zelda / Metroid / etc titles. Even if the rest of the console and its games sucks.

Metroid FPS!

Related Topics – GameCube

Just about all the oldschool gamers out there remember Metroid and Super Metroid and are probably eagerly anticipating the next Metroid title that is currently being worked on for the Nintendo GameCube. Well some pretty big news, according to IGN the game is going to be a FPS title, with a possible 3rd person view toggle.

Click to enlarge Click to enlarge Metroid is the game that started it all for me, I'm dying for this game. I really cant see how the game playing as a FPS will really retain much of the feel or theme of the previous games but damn I still want it.

DailyRadar Caves

Related Topics – GameCube

DailyRadar does it again. They have caved in completely and resumed their Nintendo coverage. After first trying to make Nintendo look bad by insinuating Nintendo was threatening them to not let them carry Nintendo information on their website (lies). Then backing down after getting flamed and posting rants about how evil Nintendo was, they have changed tunes again. Despite their initial claims of Nintendo saying that they couldn't do exactly what they are doing now. Maybe they reached a legal agreement with Nintendo? Oh wait, maybe they were just full of it and trying to put up a smoke screen for their parent company that broke copyrights and trademarks?

Nintendo & Imagine Media

Related Topics – GameCube, Nintendo, Trailer, screenshots

Damn, someone beat me to it. Joystick101 is running a story on what the guys at DailyRadar have been up to trying to skew the facts behind Imagine Media's recent legal tanglings with Nintendo. Imagine Media is selling a book in stores with Pokemon characters all over it without the permission of Nintendo. DailyRadar is owned by Imagine Media.

So, Daily Radar steps in and makes a big fuss about being attacked by the giant Nintendo, but in the law suit, the name Daily Radar is neither mentioned or implied. This isn’t about the use of their screenshots in reviews or other Nintendo coverage. Each day, they’ve been posting a new rant about the lawsuit here [ed: link removed]. They have been asking their readers to send letters to Nintendo’s president and to flood them with email. They claim that Nintendo is infringing on their rights to 'fair use'...
What is also interesting is that this isnt the first time.. here is a report on a situation nearly identical last August. Hmmm... Thanks JayZee, for all 8 emails :)

Imagine Media vs Nintendo

Related Topics – GameCube, Nintendo, Trailer, screenshots

Here is something pretty interesting. According to DailyRadar, due to a dispute of their parent company with Nintendo they will no longer be covering anything related to Nintendo gaming products. Basically Imagine Media put out a Pokemon strategy guide using the branding and copyrights of Nintendo without permission. (Uhduh). Thanks Eric B.

Because we feel betrayed, and because we cannot figure out how we could possibly offer you uncompromised coverage of Nintendo platforms without screenshots or movies or using the names of Nintendo's products, we have decided to immediately cease all coverage on the Nintendo channel.
