Velocity 2X trailer shows more hybrid action

Indie developer FuturLab is showing some more high-octane action for its upcoming arcade-style space schmup/platformer hybrid, Velocity 2X, that it originally unveiled at Gamescom. A new trailer demonstrates players switching back-and-forth between the two gameplay types at will so quickly that you'll practically get whiplash, while also showing off some of its high-end artwork.

Velocity Ultra also coming to PC

A PlayStation 3 port of Velocity Ultra was announced only a few weeks ago, and now the shmup has a new target. Porter Curve Studios today announced it's bringing FuturLab's Vita shooter to PC too, aiming to blast off later this year.

Velocity Ultra blasting onto PS3 from Vita

Vita shoot 'em up Velocity Ultra is making the jump to PlayStation 3 later this year. The HDified port is handled by Curve Studios, as every Vita indie port seems to be nowadays, while creator FuturLab focuses on sequel Velocity 2X. Unfortunately it won't support Cross-Buy or Cross-Save, so if you already own it on Vita you'd need to buy and start it again.

Velocity 2X blends space shooting and platforming

A sequel to Velocity Ultra is coming to PS4 and Vita. Velocity 2X is a high-speed top-down space shooter mixed with platforming elements. The developer is actively seeking to mix together the two genres for a full dual format experience by including special weapons and hybrid bosses.

Velocity Ultra coming to Vita with HD graphics, teleportation

One of the better-known games from the PS Minis program was Velocity from developer FuturLab. The shmup was delivered for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers, and offered a unique twist on the genre: the ability to teleport.

"If I was talking to somebody from my generation," programmer Robin Jubber described of the original game, "I'd perhaps describe it as a 16-bit game from the glory days of the Amiga, but with an unlimited palette, better resolution, faster performance and much better music quality!" So, what do you call an updated version of a 16-bit version of an Amiga game? Velocity Ultra, of course.

Velocity releases on PSN in March; free for PS Plus

FuturLab, the developers of Coconut Dodge, is bringing its space-shooter called Velocity to the PlayStation 3, PSP, and PlayStation Vita sometime this March. The game is described as a "high quality homage to the classic games us older folk remember fondly," but there are some welcome twists; namely, a unique feature that allows players to teleport themselves.
