Trine 2 wizarding onto PlayStation 4

We may know what a next-gen bush looks like, but what about a next-generation wizard look like? Thankfully, we shan't need to wait too long for an answer. Developer Frozenbyte today announced it's bringing jump-stab-swing-puzzle wizard 'em up Trine 2 to PS4, and aiming to launch alongside Sony's new console.

Trine 3 a 'no-brainer,' but will 'take a while'

Trine 3 a 'no-brainer,' but will 'take a while'

Frozenbyte is definitely going to work on a new Trine game in the future. "As for the Trine franchise, it is clearly our most successful," a rep for the developer commented, "making a third installment a no-brainer."

However, the developer doesn't want to rush into a Trine 3, because "we don't want it to feel like Trine 2.5, but rather a large leap and something even more awe-inspiring. So that might take a while."

Wii U eShop 'close to Steam,' Trine 2 dev claims

Some developers were quite livid with Nintendo's approach to downloadable games with the Wii Shop. However, it appears Nintendo's newly launched eShop for Wii U dramatically improves the experience for devs. According to Frozenbyte, the studio behind Trine 2, the eShop is competitive to services like Apple's App Store and Steam.

Trine 2: Goblin Menace DLC arrives next week

Goblins are a menace. We know this because Trine 2's DLC campaign Goblin Menace says so in its name, and next week we'll get to find out exactly why they are a menace. But they definitely are. Developer Frozenbyte today announced it'll launch on for PC and Mac on September 6 for $7, though if you own the Collector's Edition on Steam you get to to play a bit of it right now for free.

Trine 2 gets hardcore

You may think you're a pretty big hat in the wizarding world, but have you got the wand to be a hardcore wizard? A new Trine 2 patch on Steam has added a 'Hardcore' mode for wizards, thieves and knights to prove their worth, with the option to disable sneaky levitating tricks too.

Trine 2 expansion pack to add new levels and abilities

Trine 2 expansion pack to add new levels and abilities

Are you ready for more Trine? Frozenbyte is working on a significant expansion pack to Trine 2. And although it is technically downloadable content, the scope of the project has the developer hesitant to call it "DLC."

Coming later this year (before Summer, the delay-prone developer hopes) is a as-of-yet unnamed expansion that will add a brand new six level campaign, with new enemies and a new story. Best of all, the three heroes of Trine will be granted new abilities that carry over into the original Trine 2.

Trine 2 review

Trine 2 review

Indie developer Frozenbyte has crafted one of the most beautiful 2D games I have ever seen.

Trine 2's twelve hour quest was likely lengthened by how often I got distracted by that beauty. The level of graphical detail is astounding to see, whether in the forests, swamps, or caverns. Every world I encountered was filled with rich color, vibrant backgrounds, and meticulously-detailed objects from one edge of the screen to the other.

Trine 2's 'Unlimited Mode' lets you play as any character

Trine 2's 'Unlimited Mode' lets you play as any character

The original Trine was a terrific platformer that relied upon the cooperative balance of the three main characters: the Knight, the Thief, and the Mage.

Well, screw balance. If you want to be the Knight and your co-op buddy wants to be one too, don't worry. Trine 2's newly announced "Unlimited Mode" lets you play as any character you want. If you want a team of three Mages, feel free. Want everyone to swing around as a Thief? No problem.
