Wii U in 2014: games to look forward to

Nintendo has seen better days. Wii U has failed to capture the attention that its predecessor has. However, Nintendo isn't ready to give up the fight just yet--and, for that matter, neither should Wii U owners.

While there are several more set to be announced throughout the year, here are a few known titles that will undoubtedly get fans excited about owning the system.

Retro City Rampage coming to 3DS eShop

One-man programming genius Brian Provinciano is at it again, porting his Retro City Rampage to yet another platform. The retro-inspired 2D drive 'em up will be coming to the 3DS eShop later this year.

Provinciano said the port was "logical," given the success of RCR on Vita. "It kind of makes sense, as I'd designed RCR with pick-up-and-play in mind--the right ingredient for a great handheld experience," he said.

3DS StreetPass games brought in $4 million in a month

The recent spate of new 3DS StreetPass games made a pretty penny for Nintendo. Sold for $5 each (or bundled together for $15), the four games included Mii Force, Flower Town, Warrior's Way, and Monster's Manor. All of them take advantage of the StreetPass functionality in some way, so they're best when you know you'll come in contact with other 3DS owners. They also give new hats to personalize your 3DS Mii.

Nintendo taking quiet approach with indie plans

Nintendo hasn't been quite as public about their plans for indie developers as Sony or, more recently, Microsoft. That doesn't mean they aren't actively courting indie developers for their platforms. Several indie devs have responded positively to Nintendo's growing outreach to their sector, noting that the company simply isn't as public about it as its competition.
