Online games are notorious for having an abundance of DLC. It's becoming increasingly common for publishers to offer DLC "season passes" at launch, granting continuous access to a game's add-on goods. But Starhawk will not follow the rest of the industry. Instead, LightBox Interactive has promised that all future map packs for the game will be free. Curious, no?

The idea that we don't own games we buy, merely a license to use them, is a contentious one. On-disc 'downloadable content,' where the data for DLC is included on the disc but we must pay to unlock it, draws attention to this in an ugly way, and is rarely popular. Capcom's a frequent instigator here, but now the publisher's taking a look at on-disc DLC and "re-evaluating" its stance.
