DmC: Devil May Cry retailer-exclusive pre-order bonuses revealed

DmC: Devil May Cry being a "AAA" title, of course it was going to have pre-order bonuses. Depending on which retailer you purchase the game from, you'll get some "souped-up" bonus weapons and "helpful items."

For example, GameStop is offering the "Samurai Pack," which transforms Dante's shotgun, scythe, and axe into "solid Samurai devastation." Whatever that means. You'll also get some upgrade points to instantly upgrade weapons and combos at the beginning of the game.

DmC: Devil May Cry preview

DmC: Devil May Cry preview

DmC: Devil May Cry has gotten a lot of flak from fans for attempting to reboot the franchise with a new developer, and a new Dante. Yes, he's younger and has black hair. But having played the new DmC, it's hard to think of it as a reboot. It plays so much like the previous games that it might as well have been called Devil May Cry 5.

For example, you can slash into an enemy, starting a simple combo. Then, you can launch him into the air, pull yourself up and start slashing midair. As you slowly plummet, you can then start shooting at another enemy on the ground, and then swing your swords down as you crash atop the monster. All the while, a combo meter fills up on the top right of the screen. As you vary your moves without taking a hit, it moves from a Dull to Awesome. Doesn't that sound exactly like a Devil May Cry game to you?

DmC: Devil May Cry gameplay trailers galore

If you look at it one way, a pair of new DmC: Devil May Cry gameplay trailers show the new Dante stabbing faces and jumping around hostile animate architecture. From another angle, though, it can be seen as a powerful metaphor for how youth violence and vandalism are tearing our cities apart. The wonders of interpretation, ladies and gentlemen!

Ever since Capcom and Ninja Theory revealed the redesigned Dante for DmC: Devil May Cry, fans have been up in arms. Every trailer released since has tried to convince gamers: hey, maybe things aren't too different, okay? In this new trailer from Tokyo Game Show, we see "emo Dante" doing what he does best: unleashing a flurry of combo-able attacks. Unannounced Devil May Cry game needs fan art

Unannounced Devil May Cry game needs fan art

To celebrate the upcoming 10 year anniversary of its Devil May Cry series, Capcom has asked fans to submit art based on the franchise to be featured in a new, unannounced game.

For inspiration, the blog post on Capcom-Unity.com notes: "Think about all the iconic characters from Dante, Nero, Vergil, Trish and Lady and all the fantastic weapons they have wielded." Based on the franchise's anniversary--and recent industry trends--it's possible the unannounced Devil May Cry game will be a collection of the first three games in the series. If so, perhaps it will be in glorious HD, where Dante's hairdo (as seen above) won't be the subject of such fan ridicule.
