Crysis 3 Wii U was made but 'had to die'

Crysis 3 Wii U was made but 'had to die'

The Wii U is a reasonably powerful piece of kit, so how come the recent launch of Crysis 3 skipped it? Developer Crytek did actually have the supersuit shooter up and running on Nintendo's new console, CEO Cevat Yerli has revealed, but the powers that be wouldn't commit to pushing it out and Crytek couldn't self publish. So it was killed.

Crysis gets Oculus Rift mod

A game most famous for its beautiful visuals can be beamed directly into your eyeballs, thanks to some clever modding for the Oculus Rift. Crysis 3 single-player review: looks can kill

Crysis 3 single-player review: looks can kill

The Crysis series has always been the benchmark for pushing gaming PCs to their limits. Crysis 3 is no different. It is unsurprisingly gorgeous on PC, especially if you have a rig capable of showing off all the wonderful things that CryEngine 3 can do.

But get past the pretty graphics, and you'll discover a strong single-player campaign with engrossing gameplay and a decent-enough story.

Crysis 3 trailer deploys ZZ Top

Crysis 3 trailer deploys ZZ Top

An earlier Crysis 3 trailer wanted to inspire awkward feelings of awe and arousal for one of the FPS's guns, apparently. Now a new commercial wants to spark similar desires for its protagonist, with a little help from ZZ Top. Boys want to be him, I guess, and girls want to be with him, probably. Every girl's crazy about a sharp-dressed man, after all.

Watch: Also girls and boys want to punch him »

Crysis 3 trailer lusts after military hardware

Crysis 3 trailer lusts after military hardware

Gosh, aren't guns cool! They're all sleek and shiny, and make loud noises when you kill things. So cool! A new Crysis 3 trailer is dedicated to its new 'Typhoon' super-mega-cool gun, which EA says is "the culmination of 2,000 years of human warfare" and "the purest form of expression." With such an erotic weapon, you could be forgiven for wanting to seductively run your tongue across the tips of its ten barrels.

Crytek considered free-to-play multiplayer for Crysis 2 and 3

Crytek considered free-to-play multiplayer for Crysis 2 and 3

Free-to-play is the future for Crysis developer Crytek. While Crysis 3 will be a full retail release published by Electronic Arts, the developer considered implementing F2P elements into the upcoming shooter.

"We even considered a standalone free-to-play version for Crysis 2, to be honest. Launching the single-player as a packaged good and then making multiplayer free-to-play-only," Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli said. "We also considered that for Crysis 3, and it didn't happen again."

Crysis 3 preview: knowing its niche

Crysis 3 preview: knowing its niche

At an Electronic Arts holiday showcase dominated by shooters this week, Crysis 3 stood out as being the most polished and impressive of the bunch. Of course, polish has never really been an issue for the Crysis series. It remains famous for being The Benchmark--the kind of game that can push even a dedicated gaming rig to its limits. That tradition looks to continue with Crysis 3. At the event, the demo was running on $5,000 computers, and my, did it ever look fine.

Crysis 3 has more going for it than just great graphics though. At this early stage, it also looks like a very challenging shooter. Possibly the most challenging shooter of 2013.

Crysis 3 PC system requirements confirmed

Crysis 3 PC system requirements confirmed

PCnauts have become pretty complacent about system requirements of multiplatform games, knowing even a modest gaming PC is faster than the consoles so they should be fine. Crysis 3 is a little less forgiving. The system requirements are confirmed, so you may want to start eying an upgrade if you fancy playing Crytek's super-suit shooter with all the bells and whistles on.

Crysis 3 trailer shows off alien tech, tunnel warfare

Crysis 3 trailer shows off alien tech, tunnel warfare

The urban rainforest of New York City is the playground for Crysis 3, unless you are the CELL troopers trying to stay alive as Prophet silently picks them off with his bow from stealth in his nanosuit. A new trailer shows off single-player action in a new area of the Liberty Dome, called The Fields.

The trailer shows Prophet and "Psycho" Sykes searching for alien weapons in a not-so abandoned transit yard. Lots of firefights and explosions ensue, with the guys from CELL not coming out on the positive side.

Why the next Crysis won't be called 'Crysis 4'

Crysis 3 is helping the "games with bows" initiative that's rocking the country, but Crytek doesn't plan to stop there. The company is already planning for the future of the franchise, and the next game won't be "Crysis 4" in name or spirit.

Crysis 2 gets better HD textures with MaLDoHD mod

Crysis 2 gets better HD textures with MaLDoHD mod

Crysis 2 should have melted off the faces of PC gamers everywhere. Instead, our faces were left intact. Crytek acknowledged the shortcomings of the game's original release and subsequently released an "Ultra Upgrade," which added fancy DX11 effects. An additional High-Res Texture Pack sharped the overall look of the game.

But for some, Crysis 2 was still not as blisteringly beautiful as it should be. That's where the MaLDoHD mod comes in.
