Most video game special editions range around $100-200 on the high end. Grid 2 developer Codemasters has decided not only to outdo that figure, but to blow it away with a world record that is unlikely to be topped anytime soon. The Grid 2 "Mono Edition," which only goes to a single customer, costs a cool $190,000.

I don't race often, but when I do I race illegally on the streets as the streams of children, pensioners and ducklings crossing the road mean we have a new course every time as we dodge the hazards (ten-second penalty for each one hit). Inspired, probably, by my antics, Grid 2 has a mode which randomly opens up and blocks off parts of tracks to keep things new and exciting without risking bloodshed, as shown off in a new trailer.

Unlike most racing games, GRID 2 has a narrative that explains why you're driving these fancy cars--and why winning actually matters so much. But, Codemasters isn't trying to ape EA's Need for Speed: The Run. Instead, GRID 2's story is more about creating a believable setting--one that explains the merger of the game's various racing disciplines.
At the heart of GRID 2 is "World Series Racing," a fictional racing league that's attempting to make a name for itself at the beginning of the game. Its goal is to be the MMA of racing: to see who is the best overall racer across multiple racing styles, whether it be street racing, formula racing, drag racing, etc.

When it comes to a game's exciting first "gameplay trailer," far too many publishers are little cheats, slapping together a mega-montage of exciting moments with a pumping soundtrack. Not Codemasters with Grid 2, no sir. Codies today put out two actual gameplay trailers for its long-awaited race 'em up sequel, showing complete laps from two tracks. How refreshing!

Following a cheeky tease last week, Codemasters today properly announced the return of its race 'em up series Grid in Grid 2. Headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2013, Codies says it boasts a new handling system which should "hit a sweetspot between accessibility and simulation."

Pop quiz, hotshot. You've just come out of the pits at Spa Francorchamps on fresh tires, while everyone else is on old rubber, but you're at the back of the pack with three laps to go. What do you do? What do you do? F1 2012 will pose this problem, but probably not blow up a bus, in the newly-revealed 'Champions Mode,' which offers special scenarios.

As sure as a billion-dollar sport begins a new season every year, so must a new official licensed video game of that sport be released annually. No surprise, then, that Codemasters has formally announced F1 2012 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation, but now it's official.

A former Codemasters employee has publicly accused the publisher of unlawful business practices. Semi Essessi, programmer on the flop Bodycount, claims that Codemasters has threatened former staff with bankruptcy proceedings over a dispute regarding wages the company claims were mistakenly paid out.
Once a programmer at Codemaster's shuttered Guildford, England, studio, Essessi paints a picture of a workplace where his employer failed to pay employees overtime or comply with labor laws.
