Bungie-published Crimson: Steam Pirates hitting iPad next week

Bungie Aerospace, the Halo creator's mobile game publishing arm, has revealed its first game will launch next week. Appropriately, the new venture sets sail with Crimson: Steam Pirates from developer HareBrained Schemes.

The iPad-exclusive title is scheduled to arrive on September 1.

Bungie, creator of the Halo series, has announced their "next big thing" -- and it's not quite what anyone expected. "Bungie Aerospace is not our next game," the announcement reveals. "In fact, it's not even a game at all. Nope, it's a new venture that will connect us - and you - with what we hope will become a celebrated group of kick ass mobile developers."

Aerospace will be a new platform that allows mobile game developers to access "an audience with the incredible Bungie community" and Bungie.net resources. Additionally, Bungie has hired a slate of mobile developers and promises to assist indie teams "make their kick ass games." The recently-released Bungie Mobile app will undoubtedly serve as the gateway to introduce Aerospace games to an audience that's already dedicated and engaged with the Bungie brand. Mobile games that receive Aerospace's stamp of approval should, hopefully, stand out in a hyper-competitive field. Read more »

Bungie has released its own dedicated iPhone app, and teased upcoming announcements regarding the company's upcoming plans.

The iOS app is available today, for free, and Bungie calls it the "first of many" steps into the mobile world. It lets you check your Halo: Reach stats, check on friends, access online swag, and keep up with the Bungie news feed. Read more »

Bungie Trademarks "Aerospace" and "Marathon"

Bungie, creators of the Halo series, have filed two interesting trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which were spotted by Superannuation.

The first filing is for "Bungie Aerospace", which Joystiq speculates could be linked to a re-branding of the studio following its split from Microsoft. Other speculation points to a piece of technology, which might be licensed out to other developers. Read more »
