StarCraft 2 BlizzCon 2010 Interview: Lead Producer Chris Sigaty

At BlizzCon 2010, I sat down with StarCraft II lead producer Chris Sigaty to talk about Heart of the Swarm, custom maps, cross-region play, bannings, and more.

Shack: You've said recently that the first expansion, Heart of the Swarm, is about 18 months away from being released. It wasn't shown at BlizzCon. What's the status of the project? Read more »

Diablo 3 Demon Hunter Hands-on Preview

Related Topics – Diablo III, , Diablo 3, Preview, PC, BlizzCon 2010

The fifth and final Diablo III character class was revealed at BlizzCon 2010 and is the Demon Hunter. I got a chance to play through an early part of the game as the ranged class and found the class to be quite fun.

Although the Demon Hunter is a ranged, weapon-using class, you will be able to utilize some dark magic for a few spells and special attacks. At present, the class felt a bit overpowered, but the game hasn't begun balance tuning and it could have also been setup for an easy, but enjoyable demo experience. Read more »

For the first time in World of Warcraft's history, an expansion will be sold digitally day-and-date with the retail release with the December 7 release of the Cataclysm expansion.

Announced at BlizzCon 2010 by Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm will also be available for pre-loading similar to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. Players will be able to pre-order the game directly from Blizzard and its store and be ready to play as soon as the servers are turned on at 12AM PST on December 7. Read more »

StarCraft 2 BlizzCon Custom Maps Preview

As Alice reported earlier, Blizzard has announced four in-house custom maps for StarCraft II at BlizzCon 2010. They are Blizzard DOTA, Starjeweled, Aiur Chef, and Left 2 Die. I have played all of them and my brief impressions for each can be found below.

This is a trimmed down version of the Warcraft III incarnation of DOTA, which utilizes a simplified shop system--combining items has been replaced by upgrading items--and a StarCraft-influenced cast of characters. Raynor, Zeratul, and the Queen of Blades are heroes, along with other characters like Grunty, the Murloc Marine, and Patches, a version of Pudge. Read more »

Diablo 3 PvP Arena Hands-on Preview

At BlizzCon 2010, Blizzard announced that at least part of the player-versus-player experience in Diablo III will take place in a team arena. I got a chance to play a three versus three match for about forty-five minutes.

Only three of the five classes were playable in PvP, but they were sufficiently powered-up with numerous skills. I tried all three and while I think I had the most success with the Wizard, the Barbarian and Witch Doctor both had effective abilities and combat roles. Read more »

Diablo 3 PvP Arena Battles Announced

As well as revealing at BlizzCon that Diablo 3's fifth and final class is the Demon Hunter, Blizzard has announced that the action-RPG sequel will offer a player vs. player arena battle system complete with team fights, ranked games and matchmaking.

Taking place in carefully designed arenas--unlike Diablo 3's random dungeons--the battles will let you use "the character of your choice, with access to all of the gear and skills you've accumulated playing the game in single-player or cooperative mode." Read more »

Diablo 3's Final Class Revealed: Demon Hunter

The fifth and final Diablo 3 class has been revealed at BlizzCon 2010 to be the Demon Hunter, a dark and mysterious ranged specialist who wields two crossbows.

The Demon Hunter boasts skills including 'Fan of Knives,' 'Molten Arrow,' 'Grenade,' 'Bola' and 'Entangling Shot'--seemingly a good mix of area-of-effect damage and crowd control. Brian's off to play with the class and will report back with his findings, if he can tear himself away from playing. Read more »
