Things have been awfully quiet from Beamdog after the release of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition late last year. We know they are working on DLC for the game, and also a Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced, so we contacted the company to find out just what was going on in the land of Faerun.

"We're hard at work on BG2:EE and it is going well," Beamdog president Trent Oster told Shacknews. "Phil (our design lead) mentioned to me there is over 350,000 words of new content."

Fallout creator Black Isle Studios was supposed to continue BioWare's RPG series Baldur's Gate a decade ago with a third core game, but that vanished soon after being announced. Years after the developer shut down, though, Baldur's Gate 3 almost happened again, at the studio founded by several Black Isle veterans, Obsidian Entertainment. Feargus Urquhart has revealed that it almost signed with Baldur's Gate owner Atari around 2008 to make a 'new' BG3, but the deal fell apart.

Whenever a game comes around, eventually players have to make the choice of which platform to buy. Multiplayer modes add another wrinkle, since you'll want to play with your friends. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is making the decision that much easier by promising cross-platform play.

When Beamdog announced a new Baldur's Gate back in March, they promised the Enhanced Edition would offer a new character, a new area and a new adventure. Today, Shacknews reveals one of three new characters created exclusively for the Enhanced Edition: Rasaad yn Bashir. In addition, we take a look at the game's new area, the Cloud Peaks, and an all new stand-alone adventure called The Black Pits.

When Baldur's Gate Enhanced was announced, publisher Beamdog promised new content would be part of the game. So it comes as no surprise that as they add more staff to the project, they would add people with experience with the Forgotten Realms.

Trent Oster has been a man possessed since the announcement of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. The president of publisher Beamdog has been on Twitter tirelessly answering questions from fans while giving out little unannounced tidbits here and there to the swarming masses.

When Beamdog announced Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition for PC, they promised to reveal the other platforms soon after. First they announced support for the iPad, and today they are announcing support for Mac OS X.

Faerun faithful are thrilled that Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is reinvigorating their beloved RPG franchise. But anything beyond parts one and two (both due this year) will depend on how well the developer Beamdog does with the current project. That could include another popular Infinity Engine RPG.

Apple users who are fans of the original Baldur's Gate series can rejoice: The Enhanced Edition is coming to iPad this summer.

The upgraded version of the classic RPG originally created by BioWare will be coming to the Apple App Store roughly the same time that the PC version will be available. The new game will be using an enhanced version of the Infinity Engine.

Some gamers were disappointed that last week's Baldur's Gate announcement was not a third installment of the fantasy RPG series, but instead an enhanced version of the original games. But that doesn't mean that the developers haven't already thought about it.

Baldur's Gate 2 came out over a decade ago, so the series seems due for a revival or at least an homage. A mysterious Web site appears to tease a new game in the series; it carries the series' skull image and several references to the lore, but no official announcement has been made.
