Things have been awfully quiet from Beamdog after the release of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition late last year. We know they are working on DLC for the game, and also a Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced, so we contacted the company to find out just what was going on in the land of Faerun.
"We're hard at work on BG2:EE and it is going well," Beamdog president Trent Oster told Shacknews. "Phil (our design lead) mentioned to me there is over 350,000 words of new content."

Fallout creator Black Isle Studios was supposed to continue BioWare's RPG series Baldur's Gate a decade ago with a third core game, but that vanished soon after being announced. Years after the developer shut down, though, Baldur's Gate 3 almost happened again, at the studio founded by several Black Isle veterans, Obsidian Entertainment. Feargus Urquhart has revealed that it almost signed with Baldur's Gate owner Atari around 2008 to make a 'new' BG3, but the deal fell apart.

When Beamdog announced a new Baldur's Gate back in March, they promised the Enhanced Edition would offer a new character, a new area and a new adventure. Today, Shacknews reveals one of three new characters created exclusively for the Enhanced Edition: Rasaad yn Bashir. In addition, we take a look at the game's new area, the Cloud Peaks, and an all new stand-alone adventure called The Black Pits.

Trent Oster has been a man possessed since the announcement of Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. The president of publisher Beamdog has been on Twitter tirelessly answering questions from fans while giving out little unannounced tidbits here and there to the swarming masses.

All my fantasizing about a return to the Sword Coast has been rewarded. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition is coming and Faerun will be alive again this summer.

Baldur's Gate 2 came out over a decade ago, so the series seems due for a revival or at least an homage. A mysterious Web site appears to tease a new game in the series; it carries the series' skull image and several references to the lore, but no official announcement has been made.
