The Age of Wonders series has been dormant for almost a decade. Developer Triumph Studios is bringing the franchise back with Age of Wonders 3, and we got a look at some of its updated gameplay.

The game's look is unmistakably Age of Wonders. As Triumph co-owner and lead designer Lennart Sas booted up a demo of the game for us, it was clear the studio was sticking to many of the basic principles that made the games popular years ago. While the game is wrapped in a new 3D engine with improved graphics and art, at its heart the game still thrives on it turn-based nature of exploration and conquest.

Following up on last month's announcement of Age of Wonders III, developer Triumph Studios has released the first gameplay trailer. The narrated walkthrough shows a good five minutes of turn-based strategy-RPG fun from a High Elf Theocrat's crusade to cleanse evil and smite unbelievers and whatnot.

After a more than 10-year hiatus, the strategy RPG series Age of Wonders is getting set for a comeback with the appropriately named Age of Wonders 3. Dutch developer Triumph Studios, the original co-creator before it went on to make Overlord, is aiming for a release this fall on PCs, possibly with a simultaneous Mac release. A tablet version might follow later.
