Abyss Odyssey trailer reveals Zeno Clash dev's rougelike-like platformer

Zeno Clash developer ACE Team yesterday announced its latest creation, Abyss Odyssey, but didn't have much to say about what it actually was. Today it's revealed that oh! Abyss Odyssey is an action-platformer with fighting game-ish combat and rougelike-like procedural level generation, coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Publisher Atlus also released the first trailer, giving a peek at the game.

Abyss Odyssey is ACE Team's next game

ACE Team, developer of Zeno Clash and Rock of Ages has announced their next game: Abyss Odyssey. Although ACE has been working with Atlus USA on the game, it's unlikely to have any relationship with the Etrian Odyssey series; the developer explicitly says on their Twitter that this is their third original IP.

Zeno Clash 2 trailer shows first six minutes

Zeno Clash 2 trailer shows first six minutes

I am awfully excited to start playing Zeno Clash 2 next week, as you surely are all too, but next week is just so far away. To steady our nerves, publisher Atlus has very kindly released a trailer showing the opening six minutes of ACE Team's first-person face-puncher. Or six minutes from the start, at least, as it's now open-world-y so who knows where you'll go on your adventure?

Zeno Clash 2 screenshots get tooled up

Zeno Clash 2 screenshots get tooled up

Zeno Clash had two main strengths: a delightfully weird world and a giddying simulation of beating the merry heck out of man and beast alike with your meaty fists. The announcement of Zeno Clash 2 focused mostly on the former quality, but some new screenshots give us a pleasing look at the latter. It's our first day properly back at work so we're easily excited by things like pretty pictures, see.

Zeno Clash II, ACE Team's sequel to its strange and wonderful first-person face-puncher, has been confirmed for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in "early 2013," publisher Atlus announced today. This time around, it's an open-world affair, complete with two-player online campaign co-op.

Indie Jeff's Weekly Picks: August 29 - Sept. 2

Indie Jeff's Weekly Picks: August 29 - Sept. 2

This past week, the winners of Microsoft's Dream.Build.Play competition were announced, with the $40,000 grand prize going to a puzzle-platformer called Blocks That Matter by Guillaume Martin. Inspired by Tetris and Minecraft, Blocks That Matter is about a robot called Tetrobot, created by "fictional" inventors "Alexey and Markus"--get it? After the developers are kidnapped, it's up to the intrepid robot to save its masters. Navigating the game's puzzling levels requires the use of Tetrobot's special ability to absorb blocks made of different materials and use them to produce tetragrams.

Rock of Ages rolls to PC on September 7

ACE Team's art-inspired roll 'em up, Rock of Ages, is finally coming to PC on September 7th, just a few weeks after its debut on Xbox Live Arcade.

Ozzie reviewed the Xbox 360 version of the game: "Although Rock of Ages feels like it's meant to emphasize strategy, it's really all about rolling a giant rock over enemies and hitting a gate really hard."

Rock of Ages review

Rock of Ages review

Rock of Ages, from Zeno Clash developer ACE Team, is all about using the greatest weapon in human history: an enormous spherical boulder.

The downloadable game opens with the mythical Sisyphus rolling a giant rock up a hill and failing, as he is destined to do for the rest of eternity. Then he gets a wild idea. Instead of rolling the rock up a hill, why not use it as a weapon against others? This leads to Sisyphus getting lost in time and finding himself running afoul of various historical figures from ancient Spartans to Renaissance figures. The setup is completely silly and sets the tone for a fun ride.

Rock of Ages delayed on PC, PS3

Rock of Ages delayed on PC, PS3

Atlus has announced a delay to the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of Rock of Ages, but cleverly wrapped the bad news in a hilarious trailer. The game is still on-track for August 31 on Xbox 360, but the announcement states the PC and PlayStation 3 versions will come "later this summer." Considering summer officially ends only a few weeks later on September 23, that doesn't leave a lot of room to budge.
