April Fools: Nester for Super Smash Bros

April Fools: Nester for Super Smash Bros

It's an early April Fools gag, as clever denizens of the internet have released new screenshots of Nester for the upcoming Super Smash Bros for Wii U & 3DS. We want to believe--but alas, it's fake.

Nester, for the uninitiated, was an early mascot of Nintendo Power. Given his relatively obscurity in Nintendo history, he isn't a real addition to the roster. Then again, the franchise has previously featured the Ice Climbers, so it's not the most improbable gag.

Nintendo explains why Animal Crossing is not a fit for smartphones

Nintendo has been somewhat imprecise in detailing its mobile plans, recently acknowledging the need to develop on smartphones but hesitant to move its top-tier franchises. That philosophy is ingrained throughout the company, as Animal Crossing producer Katsuya Eguchi says he believes the franchise is best on portable devices, but that it's too detailed to put on smartphones.

If that look is too distracting, however, it appears that players will be able to set shut the outlines off, to give the game a more traditional look.
