Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is just around the corner, with EA Partners publishing the 38 Studios Big Huge Games-developed RPG on February 7 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
Xbox 360 owners will get a chance to test drive the fantasy world in a demo scheduled to arrive on January 17. Shacknews has contacted EA to find out if a demo is also planned for the PC and PlayStation 3. Electronic Arts and 38 Studios have finally revealed details on its upcoming title, an "open-world" single-player RPG in a "mysterious and magical new fantasy world created by New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore." Previously codenamed Project Mercury, the RPG now sports the title Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and is planned for release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
Although the title will be developed by Big Huge Games, which was acquired by 38 Studios from THQ last year, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has some big names attached to its vision. In a development "leadership" role is Ken Rolston, lead designer of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion while the art of Spawn-creator Todd McFarlane brings Amalur "to life." Having saved Rise of Nations developer Big Huge Game from closure, owner 38 Studios today announced that Electronic Arts will be publishing Big Huge's "epic single-player role-playing game" Project Mercury through its EA Partners initiative.
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion designer Ken Rolston is leading development of Project Mercury, suggesting that it may be based upon or incorporate elements from Big Huge's reportedly cancelled action-RPG Ascendant. Read more »

Rise of Nations developer Big Huge Games has been saved from closure by baseball star Curt Schilling's company 38 Studios to bolster its original property Copernicus.
The acquisition includes all of Big Huge's tools, technology, assets, properties and works-in-progress--several of which were revealed by media leaked in April.

38 Studios announced today that it has licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 middleware for use in the development of its upcoming MMO project.
The studio, founded by Boston Red Sox pitcher and avid MMO fan Curt Schilling, is currently developing the title with the help of Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and fantasy author R. A. Salvatore. The game is expected to ship in 2010.
Few details have been released concerning the game, but 38 Studios has noted that the MMO is part of a greater project based around a single original intellectual property, which is said to encompass multiple media forms beyond the MMO. Read more »

According to this story on FiringSquad, Green Monster Games is changing names. The game developer, founded by Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, will now be called 38 Studios (the 38 representing Schilling's jersey number).
