UGN3D sits down for a
Q&A
with Mark Jamieson: Director of Creative Labs Canada. Warning: they don't
talk much about Creative Labs stuff as much as personal music tastes, hockey,
and South Park. This was during the Canadian Comdex in Toronto I believe.
It's TC everybody!
rapping with
3DRealms' Joe Siegler about the elusive Duke Nukem Forever, a mention about
the balls of steel, and the number of Duke 3D downloads.
People bored off of their asses (or completely clueless to what deathmatch
is) might want to read up on
Game
Center's 10 commandments of DM.
A more respectable length comes from GameSpot with their
review
of Kingpin, which they call a "decent shooter". We still need that
patch!
What? What are you looking at? WTF!?
Oops, forgot to post this sooner, sorry about that.
Here is the new weekly demo
courtesy of DieharD-r3v. Actually it's a pair of demos in a single zip that are worth
checking out.
The
new IOTD

The winner for the IOTD
contest for the last contest was incredibly difficult to decide on, in fact there are
so many good ones I'm gonna just wuss out and call it a draw. That picture was just
calling for good captions. Here is a list of all the
entries.
Here is the previous IOTD
(captions),
and For now you can just check out this link
for the index of all the previous IOTD stuff until I finish my work on the thumbnails etc
I've finished up the article with all the details on the next Quake3 release that I
could muster. I've sent off the article to Graeme to make sure my facts are straight so I
dont tell you guys some wrong info. Graeme has also been so kind as to agree to give me a
couple of screenshots to show off the new rail effect and 1on1 map. Hopefully if things go
well it will be golden late tonight. I'll get back to posting some more news stuff for you
guys now :) Feel free to bitch and moan about how the man is holding you down and keeping
information away etc on
the Quake3
messageboard. (Which has been stable for months now, go Sander!)
Well, I just got home from several hours of testing up at id Software on the latest build of Q3Test. We checked out the new weapons, a few new maps, played around with the 1on1 tournament stuff on the new tourney map, and most importantly had a look at the new rules and item placements for clan matches on Q3Test1. Tim Willits was kind enough to take a lot of input from a few of top level clans and players and came up with a setup that I think clan players will love. Also had a look at the lightning gun which is just about done, there is all kinds of cool / interesting stuff to tell you guys about. Graeme gave me the go-ahead to write up anything I want so I'm gonna give you guys just about all the details I can. I'll spend most of the day tonight / tomorrow writing stuff up and checking my facts with Graeme. I imagine it will be done by late in the evening Wednesday, more realistically though I'll have it online Thursday. Depends on how fast I can work and how quick the id guys are at responding to email :)
Feel free to post in the comments section any questions you have and I'll try to include it in the mini-article.
The
new
IOTD today should really disturb you, especially if you are an X-Files fan. It just
bothers me.. a lot. Ack! Think you're captain funny guy and got a caption?
Enter the caption

The winner for the IOTD

Under the stuff to look at category, if you are an EverQuest fan this link to the
sale of an
incredible level 43 character on EB should pretty much drop your jaw. Then you can
have a look at the
NetGamesUSA vs Epic
Games UT match about to get underway.
3DGameGeek has a new
interview with Rick Johnson of
RavenSoftware. Rick doesnt pull any punches in this interview and has quite a few
interesting things to say. Probably my favorite quote here which will ruffle a few Ion
Storm feathers:
Rick:
Just as a final note, SoF will mark the 3rd time that I've been working on a project that
is scheduled to be coming out the same time as Daikatana. But who's counting?
The interesting article of the day comes our way via
ArsTechnica. Have a look at
DNA computing of all things. Here
is a quote from the Ars guys:
It looks like researchers are getting that much closer to
making workable computers out of
DNA. So far they've been able to solve pencil-and-paper math problems with them, and
sometime this year they hope move up to solving problems that require a computer. One of
the potential applications of this type of computing is encryption cracking.
The latest
edition of
wack-ass links has been posted, by request I'll start giving credit to people who send
in the links, you have to specifically ask to be credited however since a lot of people
dont really like to see their name anywhere near that link they send in. :)
The GamersVoice guys
have a
bit more word on whats
going down at
LucasArts with confirmation on the departure of Mark Hutchinson. Also that Steve
Dauterman (Director of Development) is still around the office however he has turned in
his letter of resignation and it's just a matter of packing up and shipping out.
A new version of
WinAmp has been released for all
you MP3 lovers.
A few different things for you aspiring game developers out there to play with. Firstly
you can have a look at the
latest version
of the Blitz Engine from ACID REIGN. Then for the texture artists among you
head over to the Wally homepage and grab the
latest version of this handy-dandy util. (Thanks
Blue)
Also I've also gotten word that Nels Bruckner from Dynamix has announced that a Worldcraft
converter utility for TRIBES should be released late this afternoon.
