Sony has released an assortment of screenshots from SCEA Santa Monica's upcoming Warhawk (PS3) expansion.

Titled Operation: Broken Mirror, the pack adds a new vehicle, the Armored Personnel Carrier, capable of both transporting troops and spawning reinforcements. The included Vaporfield Glacier map, spread out over seven arenas, will provide a frosty environment to take advantage of the APC's infiltration abilities.

The company also noted that a few extras--namely the knife-replacing wrench and Bio Field Generator--will be added to the game prior to the release of the expansion in the form of a free 1.3 patch. The wrench will act as a melee weapon and vehicle repairing utility, while the Bio Field Generator is deployed as a sticky proximity mine, regenerating your teammates while simultaneously damaging enemies.

Broken Mirror is set to hit the PlayStation Store this April. Much like the previous expansion, it is expected to sell for $7.99.

Information on the first batch of downloadable content for Incognito's multiplayer-only Warhawk (PS3) has arrived care of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

Confirming earlier rumors, the expansion, titled Operation: Omega Dawn, is slated to arrive in December for an unspecified price and contains a new map and a new vehicle that can be used on all existing Warhawk maps.

Under the cover of night, players will continue their battle for aerial and land domninance on the industrial-themed Omega Factory map. Said to be the largest Warhawk map yet, it contains five different optimized layouts for use with the game's various modes.

As for the new vehicle, the KT-424 Combat Dropship can transport seven troopers--six soldiers, one pilot--and a ground vehicle across the game's battlefields. The airship also features a MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon.

Warhawk Patch 1.2 To Include New Layouts, Rumble Support, Warhawk Store

Oct 22, 2007 2:22pm CST tags: PlayStation Store, Warhawk, Sony
The first patch for Incognito's PlayStation 3 battlefield shooter Warhawk should be coming by the end of the month, but Warhawk director Dylan Jobe has already revealed the details of the game's next update on the PlayStation Blog. Slated for a December release, version 1.2 will feature significantly updated gameplay features including new maps layouts.

"We have found that while a lot of players like playing the really large games, there was a pretty big segment that was playing smaller games," Jobe said in the post. The five new layouts for existing maps will be tailored to matches between four to eight players--Eucadia: High City, Island Outpost: Standoff, The Badlands: South City, Destroyed Capitol: Garden Showdown, and Archipelago: Close Corridors.

The update will also bring the Sony-announced DualShock3 rumble support to Warhawk. Interestingly, Warhawk v1.2 will also include a Warhawk Store for purchasing downloadable game-related content within the title's interface, bypassing the PlayStation Store only accessible via the PlayStation 3's XMB system.

Previous rumors of a December Warhawk expansion included details of a new vehicle, the dropship, though Jobe did not mention this in his post. The soon-to-be available version 1.1 patch will include mostly fixes and tweaks to gameplay functionality, as well as implementation of match-overseeing Warhawk Arbiters.

Warhawk PS3 Gains New Patch, Judge Dredd-esque Arbiters

Oct 19, 2007 3:23pm CST tags: Warhawk
Warhawk director Dylan Jobe has offered up the details and expected availability of the first patch for Incognito's multiplayer-oriented PlayStation 3 battlefield.

"The v1.1 patch is in the last stages of testing right now and should be deployed worldwide by the end of October," he wrote on the official PlayStation blog. Changes on the server-side include stat database stability improvement, improved server stability, the raising of the max clan limit to 64 members, and the address of bugs such as the viral rank-up issue and the "time-in-vehicle" stat problem.

On the client side of things, the new patch improves the game's overall connection, fixes stat connection issues, adds support for play-ranked servers, addresses the synchronization flaws dues to packet drop, and resolves several known crash problems.

Along with the new patch, Incognito will also be implementing Warhawk Arbiters to, as Jobe puts it, "protect the Warhawk community and preserve the legitimacy of our worldwide leader boards. These are members of our ... Read more

Rumor: Warhawk Expansion Pack in December (Updated)

Oct 16, 2007 6:25pm CST tags: PlayStation Store, Warhawk, Sony, Rumor
Update: Warhawk director Dylan Jobe tells Shacknews that while he is unable to comment on the rumored expansion, Incognito remains committed to supporting the Warhawk community.

"We've already made significant updates on the server-side to help issues with stats and connectivity," noted Jobe, "and we will further update the community with additional server-side updates, as well as client-side patches."

Original Story: In addition to confirming Double Fine's oft-rumored Brütal Legend, the latest issue of Game Informer supposedly contains the first details of a forthcoming expansion pack for Incognito's PS3 multiplayer battleground.

Internet rumblings say the expansion is slated for a December release and will include a new vehicle, the dropship, which can airlift vehicles across the map and assault opposing foes with its missile launchers. No pricing information is attached to the bruits, nor is there any indication of new maps or other additions, which could possibly include new weapons and new parts for players to customize their virtual avatars.

When it was first demonstrated, Warhawk was billed as one of the titles that would validate Sony's approach to online content distribution via the PlayStation Store. However, apart from marking the service's only full-priced title and simultaneous online/retail release, Incognito's efforts have yet to produce any game-expanding downloads.

Shacknews has inquired to both Incognito and SCEA regarding the possible expansion, but has yet to receive a response.

Warhawk Retailing Without Headset This Month

Oct 01, 2007 12:59pm CST tags: PlayStation Store, Warhawk, Sony
Sony has confirmed to Newsweek's N'Gai Croal that a $39.99 version of Incognito's multiplayer-only Warhawk will be retailing sometime this month. Sony used this same price point in the PlayStation Store for the download-only version of the game, but up to this point offered only a $59.99 Warhawk and Bluetooth headset pack at retail.

A GameStop listing for the title gives an October 10 release for the cheaper game-only version, but Sony would not confirm this date to Croal. The also couldn't confirm if Sony would be using this strategy going forward--releasing a headset bundled $59.99 package of newly released PSN games with a cheaper version retailing at a later date.

Warhawk is one of the already released Sony-published titles that will be updated for rumble functionality once the DualShock 3 retails.

Online Problems Ground Warhawk Ranked Play, Stat Tracking

Sep 05, 2007 5:02pm CST tags: Warhawk
Developer Incognito is hard at work addressing the multiple issues that have cropped up in the week since the multiplayer-only Warhawk (PS3) was released.

"We are receiving some feedback on a few glitches with the network and I assure you that the issues are a priority and are being addressed urgently," an SCEA representative told Shacknews.

First brought to our attention by reader Michael Jusenius, players report problems ranging from connection difficulties and massive player drops to issues joining ranked games, sporadic stat tracking, and the inability to recruit more than 30 players in the game's 64-person clans. While some may understate the significance of the title's ranked games and stat tracking, both play a key role in the community-oriented game, as a player's rank correlates to the amount of customization they have over their avatar and their stats reflect a multitude of accomplishments.

Game director Dylan Jobe informed Shacknews that the Incog... Read more

Warhawk Beta Impressions

Jun 25, 2007 3:30pm CST tags: Warhawk, Beta
For the past few weeks, fellow Shacknews editor Chris Remo and I have been participating in the closed beta test for Incognito's upcoming PlayStation 3 multiplayer-only title Warhawk. With combat ranging from Warhawk on Warhawk duels to on-foot shootouts and a number of different modes, I've experienced my fair share of distinctive "holy shit" moments that have kept me playing well into the next morning. In the following article I've chronicled some of the most noteworthy encounters, so be sure to check it out.
Jumping out of the jeep, I ran towards the shelter. My unexpected abandonment caught Remo off-guard and he overshot the jeep, which put his aircraft directly above me. Recognizing his chance, he quickly switched his Warhawk into hover mode and repeatedly lowered it against the ground in his attempts to crush me beneath its landing gears. I found myself as impressed by his ingenuity as I was amused--he was obviously unaware that Warhawks cannot be used to squash opponents. This, as well as the turrets scattered around the map, represents developer Incognito's efforts to balance the power of the Warhawks and prevent them from becoming unstoppable killing machines.
