eBay Criminals

Mar 30, 2000 2:47pm CST tags: Wack News
Here it is, the reason I dont use eBay. Fraud. Recent reports at CNet here and here about people building up a good reputation on the auction pages, then the moment they get their hands on a high dollar product, *poof* they disappear. Not very difficult. I guess eBay is still good for buying stuff like vintage New Kids on The Block toys and other worthless junk though.

Sex and Prison

Mar 30, 2000 12:06pm CST tags: Wack News
If you planned on going to prison to get some 'sex education' you might want to reconsider. It seems that the Public Health Department in Canada has decided the latest sex education campaign for prisons is too explicit:

One card shows two naked women and a vibrator with the caption: ``We can do lots of things without risk...except sharing the vibrator.''

Those crazy Canadians, also it looks like Canadian officials are finally gonna stop hunting 'Indian's' and getting rewards from the government for scalps. Of course, if they were still actually doing that the natives could move into the year 2000 with online funeral homes and even attending funerals themselves online.

Bad Supreme Court Ruling

Mar 29, 2000 2:37pm CST tags: Wack News
No, not the Microsoft case or anything. Rather, a far more important case. The supreme court has ruled that barroom dancers can be required to at least wear pasties and a G-string while performing. No more nude dancing if cities decide to pass these types of laws ;( I guess Steve will be shopping soon. Thanks Ken West who informed us of this saddening news.

yo, sup

Mar 29, 2000 7:25am CST tags: Wack News
No idea where sTeve is. Or Maarten for that matter. Maybe those tornados in texas got him. Hmm, hope not actually, then who'd update this thing on a regular basis? Not me hahahaa. Oh yeah, here's a link for something that belongs in the what the hell is this crap department.

Maids & Porn

Mar 27, 2000 1:05pm CST tags: Wack News
Just came across this story on yahoo and found it uh.. interesting. It looks like some maids in Sweden who work at hotels dont like the hotels showing porn. They are complaining about sticky tv sets and sheets and tissues all over the rooms. You're just showing up too late ladies!

Oh yeah, I'm gonna start smoking, move to Mexico, then quit smoking. It's like lotto!

Hacking Bill Gates

Mar 27, 2000 1:14am CST tags: Wack News
This is an interesting story, a hacker nicknamed 'Curador' got a hold of 26,000 seperate credit card numbers from multiple insecure e-commerce websites, most impressive being the CC# for Bill Gates. Curador then sent the info to NBCi hoping to give the security holes some press and get things fixed. The FBI disagreed.

But Gray, the self-styled "Saint of E-commerce," said: "I just wanted to prove how insecure these sites are. I have done the honest thing, but I have been ignored."

Curador was arrested and then later released on bail.

Your Future Home

Mar 24, 2000 8:22pm CST tags: Wack News
For those of you who ponder the future (who doesnt?) CNet has a pretty lengthy and interesting article which looks at all sorts of technology in development right now and how it will affect us in the home.

... a toilet that analyzes your health status based on weight, body fat, and other personal characteristics we don't care to mention. From there, the toilet may either update the grocery list already in progress on your electronic fridge, save the information in your family medical records on your home server, or instantly send a note to your doctor that it might be time for you to come in for a cholesterol check.

Backstreet Boys Torture

Mar 22, 2000 6:10pm CST tags: Wack News
Now this is some of the good stuff. Backstreet Boys' music and other pop songs are being used by University of Toronto campus police to ''torture'' students into ending a sit-in in the president's office. For six days, a group of students has occupied the offices of vacationing university president Robert Prichard and other administrative staff, demanding a campus-wide ban of the sale of clothing made in Third World sweatshops. Its a good thing a certain guy named Mike isnt there, cuz you know he would just stick around and groove to it. Thanks smackdaddy for the link.

Better Watch Buffy!

Mar 21, 2000 4:59pm CST tags: Wack News
For all you people who haven't seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the show, not the movie :) ) yet, this is the one you must watch. One of the best episodes made is being re-run tonight... Sadly, I think the Dallas Buffy Night chapter at my old house may have disbanded, but I think we all saw that one anyway... Ok, got a job again, guess I have to get back to work or something :-)

Emergency Twinkie Situation

Mar 21, 2000 1:53pm CST tags: Wack News
There is an emergency situation in Portland, Philadelphia, and Buffalo which is making waves across the world. Teamsters are on strike and closing down factories that make... Twinkies! We're all gonna die.

On Friday, a bakery in Wayne, N.J., closed and that was followed by the closing of the New York City plant on Saturday. Those plants, along with the plants in Philadelphia and Buffalo, employ close to 3,000 members of the Bakers Union.

Weekend Censorship Story

Mar 19, 2000 1:44pm CST tags: Wack News
Figured this story about net censorship going on over in Australia should interest you guys. Basically a company contracted by the Australia government is sending out letters to websites that they get complaints about. How are the websites responding? They move the hosting to a server in the US... Hey, it's more/faster stuff for the US. The land of the free...

"It's (a story) of empowerment, not censorship," said Coroneos. What Coroneos means by empowerment is that, rather than blocking offending sites -- as the Singaporean government tried to do in 1997, Australia is taking a co-regulation approach [...] the ABA's regulators only investigate a site after a member of the public has filed a complaint.

Ohhhh... so I guess that isnt censorship after all! <smirk>

So What Did You Do...

Mar 18, 2000 7:17pm CST tags: Wack News
... for St Patty's Day? Talk about it here in the Comments. As for me, well, I hung out in the Irish bar Fado in downtown Austin which kicked lots of ass. The two lines that I thought would work best though didn't work too well. They were "Hey, what's it cost to have sex with you?" and "Which holes can I put it in?"

Poland Bans Porn?

Mar 18, 2000 9:44am CST tags: Wack News
Well, we all know now that Canadians embrace pornography as a part of life, but it looks like the folks in Poland feel differently. Check out this story.

...the Polish legislature's banned both hard-core and soft-core pornography, with violators facing up to two years in prison.

The President of Poland says he will probably veto the bill but its amazing the bill even got through the legislature. Thanks Conan Ford.

Dumbass Stories

Mar 17, 2000 5:10pm CST tags: Wack News
Reading this little vandalism story on Excite about how some folks stole a Ronald McDonald statue got me thinking back to high school. I remember my Senior year a few friends and I were making our way home from some party (walking) and we walked by a park that we knew was getting torn down. Well, having some time to kill we went into one of the bathroom stalls, yanked one of the standup urinals out of the wall and placed it dead center in a football field nearby. (Damn thing was heavy).  Looking back now it wasnt all that funny. But got me wondering, what dumbass things have you guys done and gotten into?

Men Are Chumps

Mar 16, 2000 2:38pm CST tags: Wack News
Just when you thought everything was right with the world, all hell breaks loose. Men are turning into pansies! This guy is complaining that a stripper took his pants down. Then some old dude who won his local lottery and scored $685,000 cash has decided to give it all away. Women all over the place are offering to marry him now. Hey ladies, I found a quarter outside of the gas station last week, but instead of just pocketing it I put it in that tip jar at the register. Wuzup? Oh yeah, this guy is just retarded.

We're All Gonna Die

Mar 16, 2000 7:11am CST tags: Wack News
Oh shit, looks like we're all gonna die AGAIN. A respected creator of the Information Age has written a critique of accelerating technological change in which he suggests that new technologies could cause "something like extinction" of humankind within the next two generations.

...Joy says he finds himself essentially agreeing, to his horror, with a core argument of the Unabomber, Theodore Kaczynski — that advanced technology poses a threat to the human species

...this threat to humanity is much greater than that of nuclear weapons because those are hard to build. By contrast, he says, these new technologies are not hard to come by. Therefore, he reasons, the problem will not be rogue states, but rogue individuals.

Women Want Sex

Mar 15, 2000 9:12am CST tags: Wack News
Isnt this just a pleasant change of pace. A group of women stormed a Kenyan police station to demand officers either make love to them or close illegal drinking dens they said made their husbands impotent. While you're reading stuff like that, check out this lady who wanted to do the humpty dance with her husband one more time before a divorce, she even asked for it in court. (Thanks Brutal)

GoofyBoy spotted this story about a 30yr old transsexual dude/chick/whatever who got an operation to cut his tallywagger off and was asking the school board in Japan to let him/her/it to go back to High School as a chick. ``I want to start my life over as a female high school student,'' er.. yeah.

The Final Babe Hunt

Mar 14, 2000 3:19pm CST tags: Wack News
Well, the time has come for the final babe hunt. With the continued tradition carried on from hunt1, hunt2, hunt3, and hunt4, I would like you guys to join me in the final and greatest babe hunt ever. The rules are simple, keep it to 3 links or less per post, no nasty hardcore stuff, just that 'tasteful' playboy kinda good stuff. If you feel someone posts some quality images, slap a reply thread on his post as a sort of unofficial voting. It might get a bit crazy, but thats the plan now isnt it? So now, ON TO THE HUNT! The winner gets a fat karma bonus once karma is actually enabled on the server. :)

That Crazy Maarten!

Mar 12, 2000 11:28pm CST tags: Wack News
Since the well is pretty dry at cnn.com today, I went over to Yahoo's News where they appear to be the new kings of knowing what our favorite craazy little baastard is up to.

First it's down to my old stomping grounds of Hialeah, Florida where he's been performing illegal dentistry in the back of a 1980 Mustang! We keep telling him "Come on, enough with the teeth!"

After that little arrest, I guess he decided to make a life change by getting a sex change in Japan! And then trying (as a 30 year old) to go back to high school to re-live it from the other side!

We're Gonna Die!

Mar 10, 2000 4:51pm CST tags: Wack News
Yep after Y2k people of course had to search for new dates where our lives will end. Seems May 5 is it now, when Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the Sun will all line up on one side of the Earth. What can we expect?

Predictions range from a few earthquakes to major earth crust movement (slippage), polar ice cap movement, sea levels rising 100 - 300 feet or more, huge tidal waves, high winds 500 to 2000 mph, earthquakes so massive that Richter 13 or more could be possible, both coasts of USA under water, magnetic shift and much more.

Are you fearing yet? heh. Thanks deltan.
