A new version of the Unreal Tournament mod Dominator has been released. Dominator combines Domination and CTF game modes, where you have to grab the flag and touch a Control Points to score points.

The Unreal Technology page has been updated with new beta D3D and OpenGL renderers. The new Direct3D renderer uses DirectX8 which hopefully means improved performance, and you can now also use the the DXT1 textures from the 2nd Unreal Tourney CD. Thanks Cygnus X-1.

Missed this yesterday (thanks for the reminder Blues News), a new version of one of the more popular Unreal Tournament mods, Unreal Fortress, has been released. The mod is now up to version 390, and this release features new weapons, two new maps to play on and there is a 3rd party level pack created by community mappers. Here are some of the fixes/additions, as usual the list is much longer

- Awards implemented for bots
- Persistant Meddler award implemented (sabotage)
- Good Samaritan award implemented (Health boosts)
- Crewcut award implemented (headshot)
- Shotgun Implemented
- Spanner alt-fire freezing fixed
- Sniper rifle charge reset and shake without firing fixed
- Rotate Sentry added to in-game menu
- Main Team menu only shows available teams
- In-game menu only shows available teams
- Prematch Time remaining added to HUD ...

As they've done for Soldier of Fortune, Creative is now releaseing EAX enhancements for Unreal Tournament to make the audio experience better on the Sound Blaster cards. The first download is for the Deathmatch levels only, after that will come CTF, Assault and the Domination levels will be last.

Between fashion shoots CliffyB managed to get another paper published. Check out the art and science of level design which was originally published at the 2000 Game Developers Conference.

A new version of the Unreal Tournament port of Jailbreak has been released. This release fixes a "server travel bug" that made the previous version useless for online games.

Stomped got in contact with Epic's Mark Rein and asked him some questions about Steven Polge's mention of a new UT for the Xbox (see yesterday). Looks like Steve jumped the gun a little as they haven't decided for sure yet.

...Stomped: Could that game be UT?
Rein: That depends on our publisher and Microsoft but Steve's answer certainly represents our thinking of what we would want our Xbox game to be, which is completely designed for that platform from the ground up.

Stomped: Why is that?
Rein: Because Xbox is so powerful that porting something like the PC version of Unreal Tournament will be shortchanging the power of the Xbox. Why not take advantage of all the things the Xbox has to offer?

XBox week! XBox rampage! XBox-o-rama! XBox-a-thon! Word from this XBox-Fr.com interview with Steven Polge (Thanks Stomped) of Epic is that Unreal Tournament will also be making an XBox appearance. Actually a bit more than that:

The XBox version of UT will be a new game with all new content, taking full advantage of the new technology we are developing.

Epic Games programmer Steven Polge updated the Unreal Technology page, mentioning that NGStats has added several Unreal Tournament mods to their stats page. These include the Assault Bonus Pack, DE Mutators, Boden's Toys and CCProtector .

Daikiki.com has the first release of the prison escape (that's escape, not rape) mod Jailbreak for Unreal Tournament, offering four maps of which two are original and two are reworked ones. It's a 3.9mb download.

The Eavy Unreal Tournament mod page (which hosts the Assault pack) has a new simple umod by Eavy himself that should speed up the in-game server browser. This was originally included with the Assault Bonus pack but it works with all the UT modes now. Thanks Conan Ford.

Polycount has a Holiday-themed wallpaper, based on the two new models which were included with the UT Bonus Pack that was released yesterday.
