Unreal Tournament 2004 Preview

Oct 24, 2003 8:31am CST tags: Unreal Tournament 2004
Also on HomeLAN Fed today is this Unreal Tournament 2004, offering impressions of various game modes. One of the many things mentioned in the article is that a 2003 release is looking increasingly unlikely for the game.
The drivable vehicles in Onslaught include the one-seater Manta hovercraft that's fast but not powerful with its twin lasers. (While its technically a one-seater we saw players jump onto the Manta's wings to ride on top of them). You can also quickly move down to the ground with the Manta which can decapitate a human enemies head. There is also a one-seater Raptor flying craft that has twin lasers as well as a missile for its alternative fire. The Scorpion one-seat buggy has a gun mounted at the back and it can stick out big blades from either side to also decapitate human enemies (although these blades can be blown off). ...

UT2004 Q&As

Sep 18, 2003 10:00am CST tags: CliffyB, Unreal Tournament 2004
Also on HomeLAN Fed today is this Q&A with CliffyB about Unreal Tournament 2004. JCal asks about the Assault mode in the new game, favorite vehicles, the amount of new maps, AI improvements, graphical improvements, demo plans and the planned release date. There is also a UT2004 Q&A with Epic's Jay Wilbur on GamesWeb.
HomeLAN - What can you tell us at this time about the types of Assault missions that will be in the game?
Cliff Bleszinski - One of my favorite missions is the one in which you hijack a mad-max style convoy as it speeds across the desert. Man a turret, snipe, and make sure you don't fall off! The cool thing about Assault this time around is that defenders have the occasional objective in which they can make life more difficult for the attackers. For instance, in Convoy the defenders can blow up a gas truck inside of the main vehicle which will make the attackers' possible route to their objective 50% smaller.

UT2004 Preview, Q&A

Aug 07, 2003 9:33am CST tags: CliffyB, Unreal Tournament 2004
GameSpy has a preview of Unreal Tournament 2004 for you all today, along with this interview with CliffyB. Here's a bit on the vehicles that Epic is adding to the game (there's going to be a rebate for UT2K3 owners wanting to pick up the new game when it is released later this year)
Cliffy B: If I listed every last vehicle, then there'd be nothing to look forward to! We just got in the updated three-person Hellbender. (It needed a makeover, the first design was too similar to another huge franchise's buggy that everyone knows and loves.) It now looks like a Humvee on crack/steroid cocktail with both passengers manning their own weaponry. Vehicles are a lot of fun, but they can change a game dynamic significantly, and it requires a bit of finessing to keep things fun and balanced. We don't want the gamer to feel useless if he doesn't have a tank, so balancing each vehicle's strengths and weakness is an ongoing challenge (especially when you insert vehicles into a game dynamic that already has 12 or so established and well-balanced weapons).
